Regardless of how good you think Jones is today, I mean in terms of the event itself and Jones' name.

        Oh, just name recognition?

How about Maxim-Robinson then? The best fighter ever moving up to try to take the LHW champiunship from Joey Maxim?

Maxim IMO wasn't a huge name, both Calzaghe (in terms of managing to draw a crowd and Jones in PPV terms) are huge fighters.

            Archie Moore - Ezzard Charles

It wasn't a huge fight at the time it happened but neither is Calzaghe-Jones.

Neither was John Ruiz, but when Jones fought him, that was ****ing groundbreaking... right?

Same with the former lightweight, best ever, who had dominated welter and had a lot of success at middleweight, and was now trying to get the LHW strap.

              I can't imagine that event wasn't huge.

The fact that it's happenin in 2008 takes away some of the luster, but this is mos def an important fight. Gotta remember tho, RJ's legacy is largely at 175, while Zag's is at 168. Joe just happens to be the LHW champ at the moment, so no it ain't one of the biggest 175 lb fights ever.

I'd say so,until Manny Pacquiao fights the winner of this fight.

Spinks-Qwai was a bigger fight than this. That was a true unification fight. Roy Jones is too far removed from his prime to be considered on that level.
