Here's what I would do.
First, I would start a commision set on achieving "universality". Here's what I would do. First, I would need some decent capital, and respect from the boxing community. I will do that as I plan on going pro when I get a bit older.
FIrst, I would buy out the lesser-respected ABC commisions. Such as the IBO, IBA, and from there I would seek to buy out 2 of the 4 major commissions. I would leave the IBF and I'm not sure about the other one, whoever had the most money.
So now we have a lot of power and influence. The reason why I wouldn't want to take all 4 is because multiple belts in a weight class = more money. Since there would be only 3 real belts left, it would be easy to make high profile unifcation fights.
From there, I feel the media would respect boxing more and then we could land a network tv deal, preferably on FOX, CBS, NBC, or ABC. All normal fights would be on there, as well as reality shows, and the big big fights would be on HBO. On PPV's, I would encourage promotions to cut the price of PPV's, with incentives such as reduced sanctioning fees, or something along that lines. Not sure about it really
Now we've got a huge amount of money from networks and advertising, the public follows boxing again. More kids look to become boxers. This all equals, of course, more money. And from there, we could start a union, a retirement program, healthcare, and a ****load of other things. It would just keep multiplying in size.
And it still would not be like the UFC. Fighters would make their own choices, there would still be promoters making money, if not more money of course. I feel my idea is very "American", if you will.
