Boxing Question For People Who Knows Boxing.

let me be the first to start...

why do they have a stare down? at early press cons they do the stare down but it doesn't seem to get intense. but when the fight is near like let's say the weigh in stare down gets more serious, what does it mean to the fighters? do they know what's going to happen? do they see something in their opponents eyes?

explain.... hope iceman is here he gives the best answers

I've had the same thing in Street fights, when you stare each other down and then just start swinging at each other.

Promotion, usually for the press to take pictures for posters, etc.

agreed and i'd like to add its an attempt to boost your confidence and your attempt to gain that slight psychological edge over your opponent.

The staredown photo often makes headlines and it gives the sense that there itching to fight each other and that creates excitement. No one wants to see a couple of friendly guys giving a handshake as their about to fight other.

Fighters have been doing it for so long that it has become part of boxing lore. They don't even wonder why it is done. It is expected. So it is done.
