Chinese media in the city of Chengdu were treated to a workout by the likes of Marco Antonio Barrera, Andrew Golota and Devon Alexander, who will be appearing at Sichuan Gymnasium this Friday, Nov. 7, for the first world-championship card ever staged in this ancient kingdom.
Professional boxing was banned in China for 40 years in 1958 by Zhou En-lai after a ring death.
The show will feature WBC No. 1-ranked super lightweight Alexander vs. Sun-Haeng Lee; five-time world champion Barrera vs. Sammy Ventura; WBA #4/WBC #6/IBF #9 heavyweight Golota vs. WBC #10 Ray Austin; interim WBC minimumweight champion Juan Palacios vs. Teruo Misawa; WBC female & WIBA Women’s International Boxing Association middleweight titlist Wang Ya Nan vs. Akondaye Fountain; and heavyweights Jameel McCline vs. Mike Mollo.
