His performance against Kessler was not a prime Calzaghe, prime Calzaghe was faster and could punch HARD. He demolished Eubank when he was 25, 11 years ago, that is the only loss that Eubank has been dominated in all of his fights. No way is he close to his prime now, he's just adapted with age like Hopkins.
if Calzaghe struggles with Jones what will you think

your record is only as significant as the competition you beat, and how you beat themComment

if Calzaghe struggles with Jones what will you think of him then cause he will have struggled against an old, shot Hopkins and Jones and that will lead me to believe he would not have lasted 5 min with them in their prime
i believe that already but if he struggles it will solidify it for me
If i was to think like that then PRIME TRINIDAD would have ko'd Roy Jones Jr. Cause Trinidad was winning the fight the first part of the fight and even stunned Jones.
Hopkins struggled with an overweight, out of his divison Winky Wright, prime Winiky beats Hopkins.
See how that works.Comment

I will be STUNNED if Calzaghe finds Jones easy.
It's a very close fight on paper, styles make fights and Jones has the tools to trouble Calzaghe.Comment

you would think that by now you guys know styles makes fights. Hopkins has a hard to hit style, one of the only current active fighters who have MASTERED the philly shell defense. he's ALWAYS in position to hit you and almost never in position to be hit flush, a style like that is hard for anyone, literally ANYONE so Joe ain't no exception.. he landed the MOST punches against Bernard Hopkins in a professional prize fight and he outworked him all night, infact without that knockdown Bernard had no claim to that fight as a victor.
thing is people don't understand that Joe's style may not be as hard to execute as Bernard's but he takes a **** load of MORE punishment. Hopkins can still perform as good as he does because he recieves minimum damage as opposed to a guy like Joe who'll just **** out and let it all hang out. he doesn't shake punishment so even with the minimum skills a fighter can make him look bad, he has a lot of flaws but his physical ability, the ability that lets him endure and dish out pain is what pulls threw for him.
Joe was never the guy to look good in a fight, he has to smother you and take you out of your game due to rapid punching he's not necessarily the best Boxer in the world, he's more like the best fighter to those who know how to make the distinction. Roy Jones Jr gets hit A LOT more and harder than Hopkins but even still his style is a difficult one when successfully executed, it's certainly a style to give Joe trouble due to the movement and angles Jones will be punching from so not only do I think Roy will be a problem for Joe I actually EXPECT nothing less than a war.
to answer your question, if Jones gives Calzaghe trouble I wouldn't only NOT be surprised but I would expect it. people need to stop disrespecting Roy Jones Jr on this Message board like he some washed up chump, he a champion who paid his dues and ROSE UP from defeat in the worst way only to come back and have a GREAT chance at winning his biggest fight in recent years against what many consider a top 3 pound for pound fighter.Comment

Why all the Calzaghe hating anyway?Comment

an old, shot Hopkins? Did you see the Pavlik fight?
The Pavlik fight has proved that Hopkins didn't lose to Calzaghe because of time, it was because of Calzaghe's pressure. It made Hopkins look like ****, as much as Hopkins made Calzaghe's fighting style look like ****.
Anyway I won't be able to answer your question until I see how good or bad Roy looks. If Joe struggles against a badly degraded Roy Jones then I will come on here and tell you that it was a pointless win.
So how did he lose against Taylor?
HOPKINS IS PAST HIS PRIME.
I put up videos not to long ago of a younger Hopkins; Physically, not the same fighter.
Pavlik is stiff, slow, and predictable for someone like Hopkins.
That type of style doesn't test Old Men like an athletic young fighter does.
Hopkins has conserved his energy for almost 8 years now.
Hopkins vs. Tito was probably the last real complete version of Hopkins.Comment
