People talk about vanes, angulo, and kirkland but chavez has better technique and better body work than all these guys. he's coming along he will be good!!! I can bet that he has the best left hook to the body in the division even as a youngster. he works you on top then hits you hard to the body with that hook, it's killer and nice to see!
i agree his hook to the body is very solid... just like his dads..

but aside from that i don't see much else special... he definitely doesn't have near the power of Angulo, Kirkland, or Vanes... and that is what would be the decisive factor if he were matched up against any of those three.

he did okay in that second fight with Vanda, technically sound... but again, not enough power and killer instinct.

He has not really fought any other good fighters but you can give him a pass since he has no amateur experience. Ive been following him for a while now and I do see improvement. Hes getting better everyfight.

I think hes pretty solid for a 22 year old with no amateur experience. He showed good boxing in his last fight.

Yeah he is looking better. I am actually having a hard time making up my mind about him at this point. He does seem to have potential, but he has to continue to work hard and improve if he wants to be a real contender.
I wouldnt put him in there with Angulo right now, I can tell you that much.

Although he has had something like 38 pro fights now, its time he start stepping it up at least a little bit if he ever wants to get there. I am not saying he should be fighting a top contender right now, but he should start fighting guys who will fight back and actually have a chance from now on.

when did he start training? If he started at 12 or so then I'm not so sure how much more the lil bugger can improve

well it's hard to judge peoples power so early. Chavez has some pop in his punch no doubt about it. don't forget he to was knocking people out early and has stopped 7 of his last 9 opponnents. In my opinion great body work is better than hard punching. body work is a much more affective in a fight than hard hitting. Vanes nor chavez jr have fought really tough competition but it's very obvious chavez jr has the better resume. I don't vanes has fought a celaya, sanchez, or vanda type fighters that will bring a fight like they will.

As a matter of fact vanes opponents are 210-100 while chavez jr opponnents are 438-180. Chavez is the #1 guy for toprank at 154 right now and their counting on him to be succesful and make them some money. Vanes will always be in the shadows and if chavez doesn't come out then they will try to use vanes as plan b in that division. Chavez will go as far as he wants to take himself. If he can be determined and work hard he will improve and be a contendar.

say what you will... but i don't see Chavez Jr. beating Vanes now or next year... Vanes just has more raw talent... better speed, power, footwork... from what ive seen here most have agreed with that.

Dec 12 Vanes will do a nice step-up figthing 12 rounds(possibly for vacant NABO)...
we can discuss again after that fight.

he's like a version of trinidad with out the snap and technique in the punching.he learns how to slang that left hook like a sling shot like tito did, he could be a big time ****er.also, i think he should focus on his glove blocking defense.parrying etc.he's a tall kid so its difficult to do the typical bob and slipping, when you're a taller guy than your opponents.

PS. HE'S 22 FUCKING YEARS OLD.in two or three years you can call him a bum, as of now, he's learning.on the fly.so chill will the names..........

vanes doesn't have the genes or blood that chavez has How many amatuer fights did vanes have including the olympics? I hope he has better footwork than someone that never had an amatuer career. who's vanes going to fight? If you wan't to talk about little belts then chavez already beat him to that he won the WBC Continental Americas light middleweight title and has already defended it once

it's easy to look good when you're fighting nobodies. just wait until Chavez jr steps in there with a talented fighter. Then all these supposed 'weapons' that he has won't be so useful. When I fight my nephew it seems I have the skills of Pernel Whitaker. Then when I fight my brother I've got nothing.

by the way, the fact that he has his father's genes doesn't really mean a whole lot. Look what happened to Marvis Frazier
