To me it seems that Roy has always struggled with good southpaws. Lou De Valle gave him a hard fight and knocked him down with a big 1-2, Eric Harding gave Jones all he could handle until the stoppage, and Tarver does not need any explanation for what he was able to do to Jones in 3 fights.
No one has mentioned that Roy has struggled with good Southpaws

He struggled with some of them, but at the same time, beat an awful lot of southpaws, some with no trouble at all. I can't think of any recent fighter who beat more left handers than Jones did. I actually Roy's style worked to his favor against southpaws. He wasn't much of a jabber (a very hard punch to land against lefties), but loved to throw lead right hands and left hooks, which are key punches against southpaws.
More people are thinking about how badly faded Jones is rather than the southpaw style. -
Wrong, Hopkins has a better record against southpaws. He struggled with some of them, but at the same time, beat an awful lot of southpaws, some with no trouble at all. Wrong, Wrong, Wrong... How could anyone forget about Hopkins record against Southpaws? That is all anyone on this forum talked about before calzaghe/hopkins.Comment

Hopkins has a better record against southpaws, only one loss compared to two for Jones. I think they both beat the same number of them though in 10 (Hopkins had 2 wins over the same lefty in Allen).
Regardless, Jones's struggles against the southpaw style is overblown. It's that the two he struggled with were better than the others he fought, and also very tall and rangy.Comment
