Kessler: Glory over money!
In an interview this weekend in danish tabloid BT.DK WBA SMW champ Mikkel Kessler said that he would accept a reduced purse to get to showcase himself for the american audience.
"Money is one thing. My personal ambitions is different. My ambitions is larger than money now. Definetely. Of course I won't fight for free, but I would like to show myself thereby position myself for a big fight. I'm ready to go all the way to acheive my goals", Kessler said.
"The fight against Edison Miranda was exactly such an attention-getting fight as HBO would broadcast. Unfortuately Miranda ran away. Probably because he got a better purse from fighting Arthur Abraham".
Kessler is not bitter that the fight fell trhough: "In the meantime I have become a champion again which gives me some leverage in negotiating a showcase fight for me".
Kessler continues: "I am happy to be champ again so in that respect I have been fortunate. I probably would have liked to avoid Haussler as my first defense but I had to face him and I won convincingly. That fight was good for me as far as the danish and german markets. I can no longer go on the street minding my own business which I could after the Sartison fight. In that respect the Haussler fight was good for me in Denmark - and in Germany -As for the rest of the world? Well I don't really know about that", Kessler says with a grin.
