Pretty bold statements here, but here it goes:
How to get a rematch in the first place, either one of two ways:
1. Fight in February 2009 against David Lookmahanak and become the mandatory. If the WBC updates their rakings then if the Thai will probably be #1 and Mijares #2.
2. Hope that the WBC forces a rematch. Some people might say that they wouldn't because the first fight was to one sided, but look at Mosley-Wright 1. They forced Wright to take a rematch, so who knows.
What he should do to win the rematch. Personally I think that Mijares was thrown off by Vic's brilliant gameplan last night and that he can adapt to win a rematch. It's not to crazy to think this. Many fighters have taken a beating and then come back to win the rematch. Look at Daisuke Naito vs Pongaselek Wonjongkom. Naito was knocked out in 32 seconds for their first fight and then in the third fight, beat Pong.
Things he can do to win the rematch:
-Hire Nacho. Bring in a new trainer to help him to come up with a better gameplan. It was obvious last night that Mijares last night was waiting and waiting for Vic to jump in so he could catch him. That never happened and Mijares was thrown off even more by getting knocked down in the first round.
-JAB JAB LEFT HAND. Jesus I wanted Mijares to do this so much, but he never did. Mijares is pretty good with his jab normally, but last night he just couldn't do it. He was heistant to throw because he knew Vic's power. But if he would have doubled up with the jab, even if those miss, he could have found the left hand.
-Go to the body! Mijares was doing this pretty well late in the fight, but he should have done it a lot sooner. Vic had his elbow up and his body was wide open.
-Get in and out. Back Vic up, but then don't stay in there to long to get blasted again. Mijares' legs can work pretty well, but he didn't use them last night because he was to preoccupied with Vic's power.
-Don't bend in! God this was killing me last night. Mijares was doing a better job of rolling Vic's punches out in the later rounds, but he'd still get tagged pretty damn hard when he was bending in. He was trying to go down and then roll them out, but Vic uses very good angles and it wasn't working.
-Don't stand there and try to block Vic's punches with your gloves. Another thing that was killing me. Mijares would just freeze up and try to block Vic's combos with his gloves, but Vic's angles were reaching around and tagging him all night. Insted use your legs so he doesn't get the chance to stand there and throw.
A rematch with Vic is winnable. Mijares was starting to do better in the later rounds and some of the rounds he lost were on the table until Mijares took some bigger shots and lost them towards the end. It was an awful gameplan for Mijares and a brilliant one for Vic.
