Donaire looked good in the first two rounds but Mthalane was beating him to the punch the next 4.. Donaires confidence level looked like it was dropping he looked as if he was trying anything to confuse Mthalane like switching stances while his face was getting marked up bad. Mthalane threw less and landed more. I wonder what would have happened if the fight wasnt stopped over a cut that couldnt be seen... I felt bad for the south african he was just getting in to it. Its funny how donaire looked kinda bad and getting boo's while the man he beat Darchinyan Made history on the same night. I told asian sensation the other day that maybe darchinyan was over confident and had a bad night.. he luaghed it off. but maybe he did have a bad night....???

Donaire switches stances frequently, he's a natural southpaw but fights out of an orthodox stance. He did it a lot in his last fight as well.

I did see some ring rust, he'd been inactive since the win over Darchinyan and had some promotional issues with Gary Shaw and hadn't fought in ten months. I thought he landed most of the significant punches but he did get a little swelling over his left eye. The problem with Mthalane is what you see with a lot of South Africans, they keep that peekaboo defense and don't let their punches go in combination.

Hey hey my friend, i knew you would show up... you got to admit theres no telling how that fight would have ended if it wasnt stopped. I think donaire got a bit lucky with that one.

You never know how a fight is going to end, that's the allure of boxing.

The cut was bad enough to stop the fight, though I think they picked a poor spot to stop it. I think they could have held out for a more conclusive finish, though the fight was starting to turn in Donaire's favor. By the time they stopped it, Mthalane's surge had more or less exhausted itself and Donaire was starting to land everything.

I didn't speak with Donaire before this fight as much as I spoke with him before other fights but from what I could sense from him, he was looking past it a little. He was almost dismissive of Mthalane and looking for a Mijares or Arce clash.

Last fight was against Luis Maldonado last December.

I was talking about in general, true he had that one fight but overall he wasn't fighting as often as he should have been.

Donaire's last fight was exactly a year ago from last night. Nonito's inactivity can be blamed on his legal problems against his former promoter Gary Shaw and he was also suppose to defend his title but it got cancelled. Prior to fighting Maldonado, Donaire was fighting every 3 or 5 months. So, I think the layoff and that Mthalane, well, there wasn't much tape on him had to do with his performance last night.

I was one of the few that picked Donaire to beat Vic. I always thought Donaire had the style and the athleticism to beat someone like Vic. The biggest difference between Mijares and Nonito are one's a southpaw and the other can punch. Mijares is about as feather-fisted as you can possibly get and an aggressive fighter like Vic is just gonna walk-through that **** everytime.
