Top Rank (Not The WBC) Nixed Cotto-Berto, Says DiBella

Promoter Lou DiBella, as diabolical as he wants to be, contacted BoxingScene.com to dispute a recent report where Bob Arum of Top Rank told Puerto Rican media outlet El Nuevo Dia that Andre Berto's mandatory defense of the WBC welterweight title was a roadbloack to making a possible fight between Berto and the former champion Miguel Cotto. It was obvious Arum wasn't going to make that fight, too much money in the rematch with Marg. Good to finally see Dibella trying to put in Berto with the best out there.

Honestly - as soon as I heard about this mandatory thing I thought it was either Arum's doing or DiBella's. I think these promoters have a lot more influence over the sanctioning bodies than gets advertised. After all - if they didn't put up the $$, there wouldn't be any fights!

I think it's good for Berto that he's not fighting Cotto yet, I don't think he's ready for that big step.

                Agree

The natives are getting restless though, he needs to fight Collazo next that's for sure.

the wbc would probably have giving them a chance to make this fight
they would be getting big sanctioning fees

Just another fine example of the over protective Dibella ruining another potential superstar. It's nothing new for Lou!
