I agree that would be a bad move to take on Clottey at this point. I know Clottey's name is in the mix but I don't see Bob Arum putting Cotto in that kind of danger with a big rematch against Antonio in the making.

The pace Clottey likes to fight at is tailor-made for Cotto from what I've seen. I haven't seen too much of Clottey so I could certainly be wrong, but based on what I've seen he doesn't seem to be aggressive enough, and as Marg showed, you need to have Cotto going backwards so he doesn't sink his teeth into you gradually.

Clottey's a great counter puncher, and Cotto is susceptible to the straight right(Clottey's best punch from what I've seen), but I just don't think his work rate is high enough to stop Cotto from getting into a rythym and stealing rounds.

Clottey has better defense, is a better boxer all around and has a much better chin. Plus, like you said, clottey could tag Cotto with his straight right over and over. If Cotto has to rely on his workrate to win this fight then he's in a bad situation.

I think most people agree Cotto is a level above Clottey. But Clottey still has a good defensive kind of style of fighting which could give anyone problems. But I think Clottey's style would give a slower fighter like Margarito more trouble then a faster one like Cotto who is a mix of power and speed.

Still would be a dumb fight to make after losing Margarito, and I'd actually pick clottey to ud Cotto right now. But before the Margarito fight, I'd favor Cotto greatly by ud.
