Berto's handspeed could definitely give Cotto some trouble, like Judah's did.

But at the end of the day, Berto likes to engage, but he hasn't been in the ring with someone who could hit like Cotto, plus he's showed a shaky chin. Say all you want about Cotto's chin, but he has withstood shots from bigger punchers than Berto, and Berto's been shaken.

Berto also can't outbox him. I think Cotto's jab would be the major factor. His left jab is very stiff and if he establishes it early it could go a long way to neutrilizing Berto's uppercuts cause he likes to throw them inside. Berto doesn't show the necessary patience that an elite fighter with his skills must show. He's over-aggressive at times and against a guy like Cotto who is an underrated counter puncher, I think it could spell trouble.

I would never count Berto out though. He's uber talented, and guys with faster hands than Cotto(Judah,Torres) have given him some trouble. Should be a great fight, I just don't think Berto's quite ready.
Hmmm..this is a really good breakdown and you've really got me thinking! I totally agree with the part about Cotto's jab as well as with what you said about Berto being impatient. This fight has all of the ingredients to be great. You've got 2 guys that can both crack, but one guy is speedier. Both of them have shown a shaky chin at times. You've also got the question marks around the untested Berto. Good post man!

This fight will be good IMO. Judah who is faster and has more power than Berto couldn't stop Cotto. Even though Cotto lost, he lost to a bigger man and was actually doing good untill he got broken down.

That being said, I just don't see Berto breaking Cotto's will. If this fight does get made, which I seriously doubt.... Dibella is making a bad mistake, but if he thinks Berto can defeat Cotto at this stage, while coming off of a loss trying to prove that he will be back, then he is crazy.

Cotto even with the loss is dangerous, and I think it will only make him even determined to win, even hungrier than before. A feeling that no one gets untill they lose.

I would say Cotto wins this by a UD with some KD's in the process depending if Cotto come in with a lot of offense as in the Tony fight, but I doubt it, because Berto doesn't apply that much pressure, and if he does, he might be causing a problem for himself, because he isn't as big as Tony and Cotto will surely counter him. Berto's defense isn't all that great as well.

I really want to see this fight, but im saying as I see it.. This is a bad fight for Berto right now.

One loss and everybody is counting Cotto out. Cotto boxed beautifully for the first half of the Marg fight and was just outworked and broken down, Berto can't do to Cotto what Marg did. Cotto by UD.

If Stevie Forbes was able to hit Berto consistantly to the body then imagine what Cotto will do that ribcage.
