It depends who the competition are. If you're in a division where the best are American, then obviously to be considered the best you need to beat them. In calzaghe's case he never fought big names until well into his career. Those big names were Americans, but in someone else's case they may not be.

At the end of the day its not where you fight its who you fight, we could go all day arguing about who has the better fighters, Europeans or Americans, but the fact is the two can fight each other any time any place if they want too but it doesn't happen.
Americans could find better fights in Europe in many cases, but they don't.
Europeans could find better fights in America in many cases, but they don't.
In the early stages of their careers Europeans fight Europeans and Yanks fight Yanks ... Only in the later stages do the two end up meeting in super fights.Comment
