I was having a discussion the other day with some friends about Floyd and they are those mainstream types that think Floyd could ko Tyson. But one put up a good point when they asked me who gave Mayweather any kind of comp in the ring. I shut them up after I said Castillo, but also conceded that I really havent seen anyone else do anything against Floyd besides Jose.
The closest I could think of is Zab Judah. While ultimately dominated, for the first four rounds I thot Zab was gonna get the upset and return to form.
I didnt think Oscar looked good because in my opinion I felt Floyd held back and was carrying him like Roy Jones carried Trinidad although he at least got some body shots in.
This isnt a Floyd love thread, or a hate thread, or anything like that I simply want to know your opinions on this question and remember the title says BESIDES Castillo.
I saw on ESPN Classic either his second or third pro fight where the announcers speculated whether he would get the decision or not. The scores were weighted for him though in the 4 rounder when announced.
Augustus kept the pressure on Floyd, bloodied his nose and made Floyd look very rigid and uncomfortable. Floyd worked very hard to get the win and his head snapped back from a lot of straight rights, but he was clearly ahead.
Jesus Chavez fought on even terms with Floyd until the final round of their fight. HBO had Chavez ahead after (I think) 7. Had Floyd bruised and a little bloody. Landed tons of body shots.
Hatton seemed to wobble Floyd in the first round of their fight.
Sharmba Mitchell momentarily wobbled Mayweather at the end of (I think) the second round.
DeMarcus Corley rocked Floyd's world with a massive right hook. If he had followed up successfully, he probably could have worked his way to a stoppage, but Mayweather recovered quickly, was rocked pretty good once more in the fight, but dominated every other second aside from those two.
Oscar landed a bunch of big shots sporadically through out their fight, including what was probably the best punch of the whole fight (a big right that drove Floyd into the ropes in the 11th), and a great right hand-hook combo with about 5 seconds left in the 12th.
Miguel Melo stunned Floyd with a big hook immediately after Floyd knocked him down for the first time.
Carlos Hernandez knocked Floyd down. Well, really, Floyd knocked Floyd down but whatever.
Zab Judah hit Mayweather with a bunch of good shots and knocked him down with a right hook, before Floyd figured him out.
Genaro Hernandez seemed to drop Floyd with a jab, but it was ruled no knock down.
And of course, Jose Luis Castillo clearly beat Floyd in the first fight and won about 5 rounds of the re-match, which was a close, but clear win for Mayweather. But the 1st fight was an even clearer win for Castillo.
EH.... not really.... And if anything, he was able to land only because Floyd just kept opening up with all these barages. The fight wasnt even close, it was a one sided beat down for the most part but Augustus was just able to absorb all those punches and keep comin forward and land some decent shots.
Mayweather has openly endorsed Augustus due to that fight. He said Augustus was "underrated" and "almost brought the best out of me".
De La Hoya was very competitive against Floyd, I cant believe how many people deny that. It wasnt a barn burner or anything, but Oscar took a lot of rounds, Floyd had to get very tricky to pull that one out.
Jesus Chavez fought on even terms with Floyd until the final round of their fight. HBO had Chavez ahead after (I think) 7. Had Floyd bruised and a little bloody. Landed tons of body shots.
Lederman always scores for aggression, he gave the first round to Chavez when Floyd outlanded him like 25-5. Floyd had that fight in control, no way was it even after 8.

Replay shows that Hatton actually stepped on his foot.
And every fighters been hit with shots, your examples aren't really examples of being competitive, just of Floyd being hit with a decent punch.
