Ottke at his pomp was very good, but if you can get hold of the Reid fight you can see why his record is tarnished.
Is Sven Ottke an All Time Great?

I actually got a copy of his fight with Glen Johnson on Monday. He beat Johnson way more decisively than Dawson or Woods had. If you haven't seen it you should get a copy of the bout. A frustrated Johnson tries to do his own Emanuel Augustus impersonationOther than this fight and the Mundine fight I haven't seen a lot of Ottke. I got the fight from www.boxingcraze.com

Wow ! This was the point I was trying to make ! But most Calslappy fans didn't see it this way ! Claiming Calslappy is number 1 all time at SMW and saying Ottke ! is garbage basically ! when they both fought and build up defenses against average fighters ! All I was saying is if thats the way their gonna measure Calslappy than give Ottke the same consideration ! I Calslappy is #1 than Ottke is # 2 ! Personally I think A prime Benn would've beaten both of them ! I don't agree with neither of them being #1 or #2 ! But I was trying to prove a point !Comment

At first I thought the OP started this thread as a joke. It disturbs me that people are actually serious about this!
34 and O with 21 defenses. On paper at least, those are hall of fame numbers. All time great numbers even. But lets look at his record:
Brewer: Gift decision, twice
Tate: Should've been stopped on cuts in the first fight.
Michell: Gift decision
Larson: Gift decision
Reid: Gift decision
And yes, I have seen these fights.
28-6 or 26-8 is more like it. He lost a bunch of times. I have not seen the second Tate fight and the Johnson fight but from what I heard those could've been losses as well.
He is by all accounts an honest hard working fighter, nice guy, and a sound defensive specialist. But he also had a total lack of power and hardly ever threw a punch. He did more clinching than punching. A nice guy who benefitted from the German promoting marketing machine, some very biased refereeing, and some paid off judges.
Hall of famer? No
Great fighter? No
A (true) record of 26-8 is not a the record of a great fighter.
To any of those who think he is great or that he would've beaten Calzaghe, well....He couldn't even beat Byron Mitchell. How could he beat Calzaghe? Watch his fights before you judge.
At least he was a nice guy though, I wish him the best in his retirement.Comment
