Kessler: Risk Can Reap Rewards…so Why Not Dawson?

Nice post. In the heart of boxingpolitics
Maybe Dawsons only options is a rematch with Johnson or a fight with Kessler. Both are risky. But which fight pays the most?Comment

I'm not sure how risky a rematch with Johnson is for Dawson to be honest Bat. Dawson just started fighting ******ly in the second half of their first fight. I think in a rematch he would win an easier decision. It may actually be Kessler who has to go over to the States and fight Johnson in order to get some more recognition over there. I would like to see that fight. If Mikkel is impressive winning that one then surely more big fights in America will follow.Comment

As for a Johnson fight I really don't see what qualifies Glenn to share the ring with Kessler TBH.Comment

Boxing is about options,,maybe a year ago those names you just mentioned didn't think about Dawson,,but now he just coming off big wins of Johnson and Tarver,,He's got a better shot now at drawing those big names than a year ago...That's the difference between Dawson and Kessler, Dawson is atleast putting himself in the big picture,,can't say much about Kessler,,and thanx for proving my point..Comment

The thing is none of the guys Dawson wants want Dawson. There isn't the money to interest them and he is too much of a threat. If the likes of BHop, Calzaghe and Jones fight again after this next round it would be against each other most likely because they are old and want big money fights. They don't want to take on some hungry young bull that won't land them as much money.Boxing is about options,,maybe a year ago those names you just mentioned didn't think about Dawson,,but now he just coming off big wins of Johnson and Tarver,,He's got a better shot now at drawing those big names than a year ago...That's the difference between Dawson and Kessler, Dawson is atleast putting himself in the big picture,,can't say much about Kessler,,and thanx for proving my point..Comment

Johnson's always competitive it seems. I think what he meant was, that losing to Dawson doesn't qualify Johnson as a big name, big fight for Kessler at the moment. He wants a big fight, and Johnson certainly ain't it.
As for Dawson, I'm not sure a Kessler-Dawson fight is big enough for either of them right now, considering the risk involved for both men... On the other hand, there aren't many other options for either.Comment

I mean why would the no. 1 SMW want to fight a 40 year old who doesn't bring much to the table other than a decent showing against Dawson? The guy is best remembered in europe for being outclassed by Sven Ottke back in the day when Johnson was in his prime.
I bet Kessler would rather defend his title in Copenhagen for semi-big bucks than try his luck at 175 against Johnson.Comment

And that's exactly why this fight could be made. We'll have to wait until we know the result of RJJ vs Calzaghe though.Johnson's always competitive it seems.
