Calzaghe: "Me, Haye and Hatton Will Spank The Yanks"

Joe Calzaghe says the month of November will be huge for British boxing. On November 8, Calzaghe will face Roy Jones Jr. in New York; on November 15 David Haye will face Monte Barrett in London, and on November 22 Ricky Hatton will take on Paulie Malignaggi in Las Vegas. [details]

Haye will KO Barrett, and Hatton vs. Malignaggi is gonna be close I think. Could turn out to be a good month for the Brits.

Nothing like some nationalism to increase payperview buys. I'm rooting for Hatton the other two are dbags.

          Nationalism

I hate the nationalistic approach to promoting fights. I like fighters based on their skills, aggressiveness, and showmanship. Where they live or where they where born makes no difference to me and my circle of fight buddies. To me it's no different from playing the race card to promote a fight which is a terrible thing to do and why nobody does that anymore.

Joe's got a good though point and I too think all three fights favor the British in November. Hatton is the only fight I have almost no interest in. That one's going to be a snooze fest and I don't like Hatton much nor Malignaggi.

I root for Americans and Mexicans first. Hatton is tight I like him. I would laugh if Haye got his ass kicked after all the **** he talked. Joe is a ****.

                Calzaghe told the Sunday Mirror
So a biritsh Boxer told a British newspaper, (one that is reknowned for rampant nationalism, bending the absolute truth as far as it will go and picking one phrase from a hour long interview to make into a headline.) that it would be good for Britain if three of it's main fighters won and you're going to make a big deal out of it?

I think nationalism has played an important and exciting role in boxing's history, and today it is no different.

Did you like the Mayweather vs. Hatton fight? Nationalism played a huge role in the interest of that fight, which turns into dollars. Additionally, I disagree that it is similar to using race as a promotional tool. I discourage race as purely center piece of attention, however hopkins "I'll never lose to a white boy" was pretty funny.

U.S. vs. U.K., nothing wrong with a little nationalism, especially in today's times. It give us an opportunity to have pride in our country.
