calzaghes speed isn't what it used to be but if he can get plenty of good sparring in nd time RJJ then he will take away that speed advantage slightly.

anyone know what his training methods are - iv heard that in the build up to lacy fight he didn't even do any sparring because of his hands, is that true?

Pretty much, had to be talked into going ahead as his injuries were so bad. He buggered his left hand in round 8 aswell but was ok.

He's not looking that fast but he's heavier than he usually is at this point, he said himself he'll be quicker as it gets closer. His movement does look more sluggish though, plus I don't like him saying I'm not worried about what Roy brings to the fight, I'm worried about what I bring. Well, think you should be giving some thought to what Roy brings Joe, otherwise you'll have a couple of un-necessary surprises.

I like the fact that Calzaghe uses duck tape to protect his hands.

No doubt dawg. He'll possibly touch the canvass and lost some early rounds as per Kessler and Hopkins. Un-necessarily though, they never learn the plebs.

wow im really quite surprised i know that joe is a master of timing and distance but he managed to hone those 2 skills in a fight against lacy without even sparring!!

im not too concerned about what joe said - i think hes just saying that he will concentrate on getting the best out of himself. as for roy whatever he brings to the table joe will have something for it, imo joe needs to get alot of sparring in. if he can time roy well he might be able to take away some of the edge that roys speed gives him.

He did do some sparring I think, just not much. Kessler didn't spar much for Calzaghe due to an injury. These things are often difficult to prove exactly to what degree though.

I don't think Joe does need a lot of sparring, as it's with Macca, hardly good practice for RJJ. He needs to start assessing RJJ, what he's likely to do, and how he's going to respond. Not think about it after round 3 like usual.

Plus, theres no way that you can prepare for Roy Jones in sparring unless you are sparring with Chad Dawson (Speed)..

Andre Direll is fast as hell too. But Enzo will find out sooner or later what the deal is..

Well, there's guys whom could come closer size and imitating style wise, than a CW in Macca. I think Mundine is trained by RJ senior and has a similar style in some respects but being friends unlikely to be in for it. But there's some guys with a lot more speed than Macca whom could test Joe much better in preparation.
