Calzaghe will not entertain talk of retirement Comment.-The Herald
    October 26, 2008

Joe Calzaghe has put all thoughts of retirement on the back burner ahead of his fight against Roy Jones Jnr next month.

The Welshman, who takes on Jones at Madison Square Garden, said: "I'm just concentrating on November 8. I don't want to talk about retirement. I'm just concentrating on kicking ass. Roy Jones is going to get it big time."

Calzaghe's father and trainer, Enzo, insisted that if his son decides to hang up his gloves in November, it will be with his blessing.

"Everybody has a dream," said Enzo. "I dreamed of meeting The Beatles but Joe, all his life, was dreaming of Madison Square Garden and where the legends have been. He is there now boxing a fighter who deserves to be there."

Calzaghe has also ruled out a rematch against veteran Bernard Hopkins following the American's victory over Kelly Pavlik at the weekend.

Hopkins, 43, handed the world middleweight champion his first ever defeat in a lop-sided points victory in Atlantic City on Saturday. After the fight, talk turned to Hopkins facing Calzaghe in a rematch of their contest in Las Vegas in April, which the Welshman claimed in a split-decision win.

"He is thinking of the money," said Calzaghe when told Hopkins was prepared to face him on British soil. "At the end of the day, I didn't fight my best and he lost and I did that in Las Vegas. What chance has he got over here?"

He added: "That fight is not getting me excited. It would probably be more boring. I've beaten him and I wouldn't want to go over old ground."

That's a poor argument. He doesn't fancy Hopkins again, because he knows Hopkins would put in a better shift second time round.

I think you must have mis read it, he said I didn't have a good performance, not he. Calzaghe was open about the fact he had a bad performance, and Nard said he schooled Joe. He's saying if anything it'd be a clearer decision next time and even more boring, which most agree on.

Hopkins would be better in a rematch IMO, Of course Joe could be better also but iF styles make fights?! these two should stay well clear of each other.

Joe wanted big money for years, now he's getting them.
