When the news broke on Saturday that IBF mandatory Alexander Povetkin (16-0, 12KOs) had withdrawn, due to injury, from his Dec. 13 title bout with IBF/WBO champion Wladimir Klitschko (51-3, 45 KOs), questions were raised as to Klitschko's possible options for the December date. As many already know, WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev is scheduled to return on the working date of December 20. [details]

Too bad a fight with Valuev can't be made. It seems to me that Sauerland doesn't want it, knowing they would lose the WBA title.
Eddie Chambers isn't scheduled for a fight, nor is Hasim Rahman or James Toney, so it could be one of those three.
We'll likely know more by the end of next week. It would be good to have Wlad fight three times this year, so I hope they find a suitable opponent.Comment

I think it's more complicated than that. The IBF won't allow it. Klitschko won't vacate his title to fight Valuev. Both fighters are under contract to rival German networks.Comment

So the IBF will have Wladimir fight the next highest ranked boxer to replace Povetkin as the mandatory?
Since Povetkin has the same promoter as Valuev, I thought it might be possible to come to an agreement on the TV deals, since they were able to do so (after some difficult negotiations) for the Povetkin fight.Comment

If IBF is dumb enough to play their games in this case, Wlad should drop their trinket and fight Valuev. A more important question is, does Wlad want to fight Valuev? I, personally, don't think so.Comment
