  • Hopkins vs Jones Jr II

Imagine if this fight takes place.

Imagine Roy does a complete number on Joe, makes him look a fool.

    How would it go?

No matter how good Roy could look in the Calzaghe fight, to think he might magically become the Roy of old is a stretch at best.

I think Hopkins would nail him. At some point during the 12 rounds, I honestly believe that Hopkins will land flush on Roy's jaw with enough force to put him away.

You only have to look at Hopkins last two fights. Kelly Pavlik took some serious abuse in that fight. Do you think Roy's jaw would be able to stand up to those kind of shots?

Joe Calzaghe was caught flush by a precision right hand straight through the middle. Could Roy keep his feet if caught with that shot? Would he even get back up?

This "bingo punch" could come at any point in the fight, due to Hopkins slow and steady pace.

Hopkins by KO at any time.

I would need to see Jones against Calzaghe. Based on recent events I would have a hard time picking Roy to win that fight right now though.

Jsut remember but, Pavlik is not half the fighter that Roy Jones is, even now. Kelly is ultra one-dimensional and has no adaptability or ring intelligence, and that certainly ain't Roy.

I picked RJJ decision over Bhop. I think RJJ is a bad matchup for Bhop.

If you want to beat RJJ at this point in his career, I don't think trying to outbox him is the key. RJJ might not be what he used to, but a couple things are for sure:

              He still has good power
              He still has handspeed
              He can still counterpunch

RJJ needs to be taken out of his comfort zone and not be allowed to fight at his pace. Sure Bhop might have better defense from a conventional standpoint, but I think if Bhop tries to lay back and counter him, then I think RJJ's superior handspeed and power will be trouble for him. I think the better plan for Bhop against RJJ would be to bully and rough him up on the inside and test him under pressure. Which is why I think Calzaghe is a bad matchup for RJJ at this point also.

Thats how I see it.....but I seriously doubt that B-Hop will try to outbox Roy......AGAIN. That was his mistake in '93.

If Roy does beat Calz, controversy free that is, it would prove he has enough in the tank to beat Bhop again. However, I dont think Roy gets past Joe at this point.

Calzaghe's best attributes are his handspeed and counterpunching, and Hopkins neutralised both of these and took it to a close decision.

Joe got nailed, and TBH I think he has more in the tank than Roy at this point.

Roys suspect chin would get tested, and I don't know for sure if it would be able to stand up to Hopkins shots, I'm thinking probably not.
