Kelly fought Jermain the 2nd time out at 166lbs, 4lbs shy of 170. So the weight excuse holds no water.

Just as it held no water against Trinidad, who blew out a pretty solid career Middleweight in William Joppy (32-1-1) in his debut at 160lbs. A guy Hopkins himself failed to KO.

I've seen several people claim that 170 is too much for Pavlik, and you're right, that's just not true. The kid has a very large frame that will easily support LH. Look at how broad his shoulders are...the kid could probably spend a few years at cruiser at the end of his career, if he took his time getting up there. Just because he can make middle, doesn't mean he's not good for anything else.

I don't know whether the bronchitis claim has any merit or not, and it's totally irrelevant as far as I'm concerned. I picked Pavlik only because I thought Hopkins would gas by mid rounds. Had I not assumed that would be the case, I'd have picked Hopkins by decision anyway, whether Pavlik fought a perfect fight or not. And the simple fact is that Hopkins didn't just put on a great performance...he put on a ****ing brilliant display of smarts, speed, conditioning and talent that probably won't be repeated for a long, long time. I dont' care which version of Kelly showed up last Saturday...if the same Hopkins showed up, he still loses.

I don't believe for one minute that Pavlik didn't think he was ready to go. He said in the ring afterwards that he has no excuses, he got a lesson. Anything that comes out NOW, is al bull**** IMO. Pavlik doesn't strike me as the "excuse making" type. He got beat, owned up to it, is dealing with it like a man and will be back bombing on anyone who weighs in at 160. Simple as that. I still say that maybe some added trainers would benefit him greatly but he has the tools to reign at MW for as long as he wants to. Bring on AA so we can dispose of that nonsense.

He sounded fine in the lead up to the fight, I think it's just an excuse, with or without bronchitis he would have lost.

While, if I remember correctly Miranda did hit Pavlik cleanly but Pavlik just didn't go down.
Keep in mind Miranda pretty much beat Abraham's ass in the first fight. THEN he gets a horrible, brutal beating at the hands of Pavlik, THEN he gets KOed in the rematch. Not saying that had everything to do with it, but Pavlik softed up Miranda permanently, and I think Arthur finished the job.
Anyway yeah excuses after a fight get pretty annoying, dont step into the ring with an excuse.

Pavlik's reputation has been damaged because of B-Hops dominating victory. This phantom bronchitis sounds like damage control by the public relations team. If there is any truth behind it though, Pavlik wouldn't have beaten Hopkins on that night but he probably would have at least won a few rounds.
