              Mayweather-Pacquiao Transcript (Episode 3)

Narrator: Back in Hollywood, California...Team Pacquiao is hard at work training in the gym for the showdown on October 24th...

*Show clip of Pacquiao hitting the target mitts and Roach barking orders*

*Show Pacquiao’s crew standing near the ropes*

Narrator: Trainer Freddy Roach and his fighter Manny Pacquiao are today boxing’s best known duo, after Calzaghe and his father Enzo…

*Show clip of Roach walking around the ring taking a rest from Pacquiao hitting the mitts*

Roach: “Go easy on me, I’m old…”

*Show people chuckling and Pacquiao smiling as he gets back to work*

Narrator: It is a bond that has long been established since 2001. For 8 years, they have shared a long list of memorable victories together, against well-known and top-ranked fighters: Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Juan Manuel Marquez, David Diaz and most recently…Oscar de la Hoya.

Roach interviewed: “Manny became unbelievably huge in the states after being the sixth guy to beat Oscar…but he was the first one to beat him convincingly.”

*Show photo of Pacquiao and De la Hoya at the post fight press conference*

Narrator: Despite the immediate protest and close decision loss for De la Hoya, there weren’t talks of a rematch, at least not from Pacquiao’s camp…

*Show clip of Pacquiao raising his arm up after his fight with De la Hoya*

Roach interviewed: “Pacquiao beat him up, simple as that. On the surface, Oscar made it seem as if it was going to be a competitive fight leading into it, but I think on the inside Oscar thought he was going to blow Manny out of the water.”

Narator: Still, some persist of the result being fixed, with the purpose of justifying a rematch, much like another super-fight starring the boxer/promoter in 2007.

*Show brief 3-clip slow motion montage of De la Hoya-Mayweather fight*

Narrator: Oscar was in control of the fight establishing the jab, but when he failed to follow the plan, the fight turned in Mayweather’s favor.

Dan Rafael: “Yeah, some people think De la Hoya had a general idea of how the fight was going. A close decision loss (or win) would be disputed, which would result in more money in a rematch. It backfired on De la Hoya, because when he looked for a rematch with Mayweather, Mayweather retired. When he looked for a rematch with Pacquiao, Pacquiao said ‘No, I’m going with Floyd.’”

Lampley: “You have a…marketable star in Manny Pacquiao, you have a marketable star in Floyd Mayweather, Jr…and to know that these two fighters are going to be fighting…without Oscar being able to get a slice of the pie knowing he had a large role in their superstardom must be driving him completely mad!”

*Show clip of Oscar de la Hoya coming into Roach’s gym*

Narrator: De la Hoya has since officially retired…and now concentrates on promoting fights and supporting his fellow fighters, at least when he’s allowed…

*Show grainy amateur footage of Oscar arguing with one of Pacquiao’s camp members*

De la Hoya: “What the hell is your problem, man?!”

Camp Member: “Get out of the gym! Get out of the gym!”

De la Hoya: “Don’t you know who I am?! I’m Oscar de la Hoya, dammit!”

Camp Member #2: “Roach wants you out!”

              De la Hoya: “What?! Why?!”

Camp Member #3: “You’re a fu%$# jinx, man! Get on outta’ here!”

Roach interviewed: “No, I don’t have any hardship towards Oscar. I just don’t want him hanging around Pacquiao, that’s all. I don’t want him to distract Manny or have some of his bad luck rub off on him. H-h-he’s like Trinidad. Every time he goes and visits a fighter who’s about to get ready, he ends up losing. Oscar visited Hopkins for his fights against Taylor and he visited Hatton for his fight with Mayweather. Trinidad visited Winky before Winky was set to fight Hopkins, Winky lost. Trinidad visited Oscar before Oscar was set to fight Mayweather, Oscar lost. Oscar must be pissed right now. That’s why he took Tito Trinidad fight for his last fight. Sure, the fight broke records, but really what he did prove by beating Trinidad again…that was a fight for the uninformed. For real boxing fans, that fight meant nothing at all. And as far as I’m concerned, he shouldn’t be in here. The fact that he already set foot inside the gym worries me.”

*Someone is heard shouting something to Roach off-camera*

              Roach interviewed: “What?”

Camp Member #2: “Pacquiao just fell and he can’t get up!”

Roach: “Oscar, you son of a *****! I told ya’ he’s a jinx!”

Narrator: Despite the criticism, it can be said it runs both ways…

De la Hoya interviewed: “I didn’t lose my fight with Floyd because of Trinidad, I lost it because Freddie Roach was in my corner!”

Bernard Hopkins interviewed: “I didn’t lose my fight with Joe Calzaghe because of his handspeed, I lost it ‘cause of Freddie Roach!”

Shane Mosley interviewed: “Freddie Roach approached me before my fight with Ricardo Mayorga…and I said no. I had to pepper-spray him.”

*Relaxing music as Pacquiao stares off into the sunset*

Narrator: Through all the hardships Pacquiao has gone through, it may be at last that his boxing days may be coming to an end. Manny Pacquiao, now 30 going on 31, has decided he would ultimately end his career after this last fight. Win or lose…

Pacquiao interviewed: “Aye tink mye contry is proud of me, and ahfter dis fight aye can finally retire. Aye wan to do oder tings…aye’m not bored of boxing, aye johs want to try oder tings like politics and singing.”

Roach interviewed: “Yeah, we’ve talked about it. Manny’s said that he wants to end his fighting days, and I won’t stop him. He’s done so much, and win or lose, he’ll still be loved by fans all over the world. You know, it’s surprising how many fighters are exiting the sport when they’re dominating it…that-that’s gonna’ leave a hole in the sport…Calzaghe retired after he beat Jones…

*Show photo of Calzaghe after the fight*

…Hopkins retired seeing as neither Jones nor Calzaghe wanted to give him a rematch…

*Show clip of Hopkins upset at a press conference*

              …and now Pacquiao…

              *Show clip of Pacquiao shadowboxing*

…Floyd will retire, too…after he sees what Manny has to offer, he’ll realize he should’ve stuck to being a music promoter.”

Narrator: The looming end of Pacquiao’s boxing career is always getting closer, but Pacquiao has plans to have Freddie Roach as a permanent business partner.

Pacquiao interviewed: “Wee ahre going into business ahfter deh fight. Freddie got me the deal wit Dreamworks to play deh voice of a koala in ‘Over the Hedge part 2’.”

Roach interviewed: “Yeah, I know. I-I-It’s kinda’ disappointing. The best fighter in the world is retiring to become a voice actor, but it’s not just that. It’s just one of many other things.”

              *Roach stares into the camera*

Roach interviewed: “By the way, go see the movie, it’s absolutely hilarious! The koala has boxing gloves and there’s a reference to Mayweather in the movie…I won’t say which animal represents Floyd, but it’s red-bottomed…”

              *Roach laughs*

Roach interviewed: “We’re not worried at all about this fight. Mayweather’s been retired for too long. We’re not underestimating him, Manny’s training for this fight. We’re both taking it very seriously, but it’s hard to feel discouraged when Mayweather’s actually the underdog in this fight.”

Narrator: Mayweather’s inactivity and performances compared to Pacquiao’s recent string of impressive wins have made him a 2-1 underdog, to the surprise of many. However, any advantage that Pacquiao seemingly had over Mayweather was thrown out the window, when the following incident occurred on Friday Night Fights.

*Show Joe Tessitore and Teddy Atlas talking before a fight*

Tessitore: “So, Teddy…about this big fight coming up with Mayweather and Pacquiao? Who do you think takes that?”

Atlas: “Well, it’s interesting. Mayweather’s the best defensive fighter out there, it was his defense that got him to win against De la Hoya, that fantastic shoulder roll he does. Not a lot of people can do that, and he does it well even when he’s trapped against the corner. Plus, he’s got terrific accuracy with both hands, and has picture perfect precision with that sharpshooting right. Pacquiao has that strength, that burning attitude…he beat Oscar de la Hoya, he did what Mayweather did, only more convincingly. Nobody’s beaten up Oscar up in his entire career the way Pacquiao did it.”

              Tessitore: “Yeah, I—

Atlas: “Oscar isn’t the youngest fighter out there, but he’s a terrific fighter nevertheless. To watch him get beat up like that, by a guy that was supposedly smaller than him and had less technique…wow, you know? It says a lot about him.”

              Tessitore: “So?”

              Atlas: “So what?”

Tessitore: “So who do you think is gonna’ win the fight?”

              Atlas: “Nah…I…I don’t wanna’ say.”

Tessitore: “Sure you do, Teddy. C’mon…”

*Tessitore wraps his arm around Atlas*

              Tessitore: “C’mon, Teddy…be a sport.”

              Atlas: “Oh, all right…….Pacquiao.”

*Clip pauses and flashes in negative with a distorted Halloween-esque evil laugh*

*Gentle instrumental music plays as the camera shows a top view of the city of Las Vegas after midnight, then shows Mayweather's mansion*

              TO BE CONTINUED...

                  Pacquiao/Mayweather transcript (Episode 4- Closure)

*Shows overview of Las Vegas as tranquil instrumental music plays*

Mayweather interviewed: “I’ve had a rough life, boxing was forced on me. God just gave me the talent to do it and I was good at it and I beat everyone I ever fought, Like I said, no matter what I do, they’ll never gave me the credit. 39-0…I can box, I can knock out, I can defend, I can take a punch if I get caught…but they’ll always hate me, just because of my personality. After I retired, people started sayin’ ‘bout how I was runnin’ from Cotto…or Margarito. Believe me when I say this, I can beat them. But why even put the effort when they’re not contributing anything financially? Even if I fight them, what’s in it for me? Credit? Naw…never. They’ll just come up with an excuse like they always do. They might even say he deserves a rematch. Hell, if we’re going to go with rematches, I might as well give Gatti one. Hell, let’s do it right now…”

*24/7 music plays as Floyd gets in the car, drives to the airport, gets on a plane, flies to Canada, takes a taxi to Gatti’s house and walks to the front door*

*Camera stands behind Floyd as he rings the doorbell*

                  *Ding-dong!*

                  *Gatti’s mother opens the door*

                  Gatti’s mother: “Hello?”

Mayweather: “Good evening, Mrs. Gatti. This is a lovely home you have. My name is Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Is your son home?”

Gatti’s mother: “Yes, I’ll wake him up. Come inside.”

                  *Floyd sits on the couch*

*Gatti comes out in pajamas rubbing his eyes*

                  Mayweather: “Hey, Gatti…think fast!”

                  Gatti: “What?”

*Gatti gets clipped with a left hook and drops to the floor*

Mayweather: “And still undefeated…Pretty Boy MoneyMay!”

Narrator: After his brief detour, Mayweather returns to Las Vegas to begin training for his upcoming fight…

*Show a camera shot far from the ring*

Narrator: As usual, Mayweather’s sparring sessions are not allowed to be taped. For this fight, Mayweather is getting the best preparation possible, his sparring partners being current boxing champions. As the shutters to the boxing gym close, a long line of elite fighters forms outside of it, each fighter waiting his turn to spar with the undefeated ex-champion. Among the first three in line is current WBA welterweight champion Miguel Cotto…

Cotto interviewed while in line: “I think…ehh, Floyd Mayweather is a terrific fighter…an’ ahm here…to prepare him better for deez fight.”

*Cotto walks away into the gym as another one is being led out*

Narrator: For each fighter four rounds are sparred. Then, a minute break before the next fighter is sent in…

*Camera shows Cotto coming back with a bloody and swollen lower lip*

Cotto interviewed after sparring: “Bueno, Mayweather es un tremendo boxeador y no le quito nada. Me dio un poco más duro de lo que anticipaba, pero nada serio.”

Narrator: Down the line, another opponent from Manchester, England eagerly awaits his turn…

Hatton interviewed while in line: “I keep sayin’ it, the reason he boosted me up was becooz Cortez kept separatin’ oos. I wuz completely faine, would’ve made it out with a decision if I hadn’t joomped in like I’m used to. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some ass kickin’ to do.”

*Camera shows Hatton walking away into the gym*

Narrator: Mayweather considers that this type of sparring will be best to get him warmed up after having been gone for so long, against an opponent on top of the pound-for-pound list and one who only gets better and better with each and every fight.

*Camera shows Hatton coming out with the right side of his face completely bruised up and black, looking like two-face and limping*

Hatton interviewed after sparring: “Well, what can I say? He hasn’t lost a bit of his talent, uhh…he kicked my ass, take my hat off to him. I was doin’ good. It’ easier to hit him when it’s just me and him in there, but it’s still fairly difficult. He’s quicker than he was back then…”

*Hatton caresses the right side of his face*

Hatton interviewed after sparring: “This bruise isn’t from his poonches, it’s just that I resorted to me old tactics and leaped in…got hit, fell through the ropes, fell face first into an upside down lawnmower…who the fook keeps an upside down lawnmower outside the ring?! Fookin’ Christ’s sake!”

Narrator: Another fighter waiting down the line, the founder of Golden Boy Promotions…

De la Hoya interviewed in line: “I love boxing! I think this is a great match-up and I’m really excited…honestly…even though this fight’s gonna’ make millions and I won’t see a cent of it…but now I will if you decide to include footage of me in this 24/7 episode!”

Cameraman: “Actually, we’re filming for a countdown.”

                  De la Hoya: “Oh…that’s nice…"

                  *Awkward Pause*

*Security shows up and escorts De la Hoya off the premises*

De la Hoya: “What the hell?! I can’t see Floyd?!”

Security: “You’re on Mayweather’s black list: next to Antonio Margarito and Paul Williams.”

De la Hoya: “What the ****, man?!”

Narrator: Next in line is the still very much feared Antonio Margarito, who apparently hasn’t heard what security told De la Hoya.

Margarito: “Javier, ¿qué pasó? ¿Por qué botaron a De la Hoya?”

Capetillo: “No sé, Antonio. Pero oyeme bien…tienes que entrarle a las malas, acorralarlo e ir al cuerpo sin piedad. ¡Esta mariquita no tiene fuerza, es rápido pero mas nada, ¡por eso te huye tanto! ¡Ve alla dentro y llevalo al infierno!”

                  Margarito: “¡Viva Mexico!”

                  *Margarito charges inside the gym*

                  *Everyone waits for a moment*

                  *Margarito gets kicked out*

Margarito interviewed after sparring: “No pude pelear con Mayweather. Empezaron a discutir fuertemente, diciendo y que le iba tener que darle suave y le dije que no. Yo le dije que si tenian los cojones para pelearme, que lo debia hacer. Me botaron entonces…no tengo nada que decir al respecto. Solamente…que los mas que cobran en este deporte son unos cobardes y los que deben ser pagados deben ser los que le dan una buen pelea y un buen espectáculo para los fanáticos del boxeo.”

Capetillo: “¡Exactamente! Esto no es de maquillaje…¡no, señor! ¡Esto es pelear aquí!”

Narrator: As the day nears its end, the last men in line offer some words of wisdom before going in to spar with Mayweather…

*Camera shows who’s next in line: Mike Tyson with a bewildered look on his face*

Mike Tyson: “I’m here to give the best fighter in the world today an opportunity to train with a legendary guy such as myself…I’m not here for the money, of course not. I just want to see what I can offer to this young kid.”

*Camera turns right, showing Calzaghe with hands tucked in his pockets*

Calzaghe: “Well, what else is there to say? Champion for moa then 10 yias, undefeated, on top of the pound-foh-pound list…this guys reminds me of me. Mayweatha called me and I told him that I’m too big to spah with him, but he insisted, so hia I am. I’ll have to take it easy on him…”

*Calzaghe laughs as the camera moves right some more to reveal another fighter: Jermain Taylor*

Jermain: “I don’t even know why I’m even here, man. All I heard wuz’ that Garth Brooks was in town, so I had to come over to see if it was true.”

                  *Camera turns left to Tyson*

Tyson: “Who the hell is Garth Brooks?”

Jermain: “Who the hell are you?”

                  *Awkward silence*

*Camera shows a time transition and then the three fighters come out: Tyson in a wheelchair, Calzaghe with both arms in caskets, and Jermain wearing a cowboy hat*

Tyson: “He bwoke my legs. He was so quick and so ewusive that I tried to hit him, and my legs got tangled up and I broke my ankles…and my back…….my back……..I broke my back.”

Calzaghe: “He bwoke my ahms…good thing I had already retiyed, ‘cause if not I’d be suing tha bastad…he bwoke my ahms.”

Jermain: “He broke my heart, man. I came here to see Garth Brooks, and it was some dude called the Maysomething…I even brought a CD to get it autographed and everything, and now…tchhh, I’m so disappointed, man. I can’t even describe it.”

*Show landscape of Las Vegas as gentle instrument music plays, then a close-up of Mayweather’s face through a reflection of the windshield, neon lights people walking and talking through the city at night as he drives down the strip*

Mayweather’s voice: “You’ll all see, come October 24th, I’ll once again be denied the credit I’m due after I’m through with Pacquiao. They can talk all they want, but at the end of the day, and I’ve said it millions of times, it’s just you and me. Freddie Roach can’t help you, the Filipinos can’t help you, can’t nobody help you. Whether the crowd’s for me, or the crowd’s against me, I always step up to the plate. This ain’t about money, this ain’t about legacy, once again…Money May’s gonna’ tap that ass! Same thing that happened to Ricky Hatton, he had a big crowd, and he lost…miserably. Pavlik…same ****. They think that the bigger the entourage…the better their chances…okay, whatever you say…….you go on and do that. This is it…he knows it. You don’t get many fights like this very often…this is do or die…”

*Music suddenly turns into something more ominous: Stratovarius’s first minute of “Infinity” plays and loops*

Pacquiao interviewed: “Aym teh bess fighter een teh worl. Ayf beaten the best, Ayf done wat dhey tought was impossible beating De la Hoya, an now ayf finally got a chance to one of teh best in history. Aye weel not let myself or mye country down. Aym not afraid of heem…he knows aym the beegest threat he’s ever faced.”
