To Bernard Hopkins - From the Boxing World: "All Apologies"

    Dear Bernard Hopkins,

On behalf of boxing enthusiasts in America and elsewhere around the world, let this writer offer a sincerely apology for doubting that you could not only beat but dominate in such a clinical fashion middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik. First and foremost, please disregard the age disparity mantra that was to be the single most dominate factor in this fight. Please forgive us for thinking that your punch

output and energy would be low overall and dip in the second half of the fight. Please forgive us for doubting your footwork and defensive prowess. Please excuse our inability to recognize that Kelly Pavlik does not throw the amount of punches that Joe Calzaghe does or for that matter Jermain Taylor. Our eyes were perhaps deceiving us, as we knew Pavlik was somewhat of a stationary fighter, but thought for some reason that that was not particularly relevant in this encounter.

Please disregard our inability to remember that styles make fights, something one learns in Boxing 101 and something you repeated at exhaustion in the lead up to this fight. We should have remembered that you’ve been in the ring with the best, and while Mr. Pavlik has beaten some good fighters in impressive fashion, he has not faced the same caliber of competition that you have. We should have known that you would win the battle inside and that you had the tools to neutralize his power.

A special apology from those who thought Pavlik would hand you your first knockout loss. We would have done well to remember that you’ve not tasted the canvas in many years and that was not the current version of Bernard Hopkins. We should not have been surprised then that Pavlik could not hurt you (and could barely hit you). Perhaps too much focus was put on his 30 knockouts in 34 fights.

Lastly, forgive us for thinking that some of your fights are boring and that you may only still be around to not look bad rather than to win convincingly. We will not doubt you again and relish your presence each time you step in the ring however many more times it may be. You told Larry Merchant you need the naysayers to motivate you; well, you’ve definitely lost many of them forever and may have to find other means of motivation. Thank you for perhaps the best performance of your career and inspiring millions.

    Respectfully,

    The Boxing World

That's a pretty decent article and deserved. I just wonder how many people in the boxing world that truly speaks for. That article or something like it should be on all big boxing websites, no doubt.

That dirty bastard is trying to take away Bernard's motivation!! When will the haters stop coming up with new ways to ruin the Executioner?! I just thank God Bernard can't read, otherwise we'd be in trouble..

                I cried.

In all honesty though, Hopkins won me £40 because I put £40 on him to win at 2/1.
