If he fought with so much pride and honor like he did against Pavlik.
I was able to watch the replay of the Pavlik fight and one stark difference between the Pavlik and Calzaghe fights was that Hopkins in the Pavlik fight PUT EVERYTHING ON THE LINE.
He engaged multiple times per round, he MIRACULOUSLY PLAYED A CLEAN FIGHT, he AMAZINGLY NEVER RAN LIKE A CHICKEN from Pavlik and he fought with a lot of pride seemingly from a man who has something to prove.
Now what made Hopkins a force beyond 40 years old is that he didn't took a beating which would have relegated him to SHOT status.
Hopkins made by winning mostly on points and expending as less energy as possible in doing so by using questionable tactics and actions which would label SHAME on a boxer.
Add the fact that he is one of the very few boxers who never gets out of shape in between fights.
The combination of his discipline, avoidance of grave punishment inside the ring and his own physical gifts are what made Hopkins an elite even past 40.
If he had fought the way he fought Pavlik EVERYTIME he fights...
Then I say he wouldn't make it past mid 30's.
Accumulation of in-ring punishment will surely put him in SHOT status or at the very least slow him down considerably.
