Oh, and I said months ago that Zaggs would make Pavlik look like a fool if that fight happened. Kessler is a much more complete boxer than Pavlik, and what did he do to that guy?

My girlfriend was just saying the same thing.

The Kessler fight was competitive, but Mikkel looked completely befuddled in the corner between rounds. He had no clue how to deal with Calzaghe after a while.

Mikkel's great though. Love the guy.

I too thought that Pavlik was a tad overrated and would lose to Calzaghe although I thought he'd decision Hopkins.

But can we leave Kessler out of it? At least until he beats an elite fighter like everyone else? Or at least A-class? B?

Here we go with dissing another fine boxer.

I can't keep up. This is just another cheap shot at Calzaghe, essentially, right?

I'm comparing Pavlik and Kessler for technical purposes, not accomplishments. Any fool can look at the two and see who's more technically skilled, quicker, mobile, and powerful.

That's my point, not that one has beaten better competition than the other.

I do, however, like Kessler a great deal and fully expect to see him in MSG sometime in the next year or two.

Hey, try this one on for size:

Instead of believing it's some "bias" or "cheap shot", why not refute it? Do you disagree?

Here we are talking about Hopkins, Pavlik, Calzaghe, etc...and then someone sneaks Kessler in there like he belongs. Why? That is another way to bolster Calzaghe, essentially, right?

Kessler, in the context I brought him into the conversation, was very relevant. Not sure why that bothers you, but what do you expect? If we can't reference past fights and make comparisons like that when discussing this sport, we may as well not keep records of past bouts, don't you think? Bolstering Calzaghe had nothing to do with my post, I merely used a past fight with a guy who's technically superior to the one we were talking about to extrapolate how a bout between he and Calzaghe might go. I suppose I could've used Lacy as a benchmark, but then I think you'd have bitched about that too, even though Lacy is somewhat closer in ability and style to Pavlik than is Kessler.

Seriously, Dazed, what is it you're looking for me to use as a reference if not past experiences?

Neither one is anything like Pavlik. Lacy has a completely different style and other than skin tone, I don't know what Pavlik has in common with Kessler.

So why the comparison at all? Neither is on Pavlik's level, neither is similar at all.

FYI, I didn't say you were bolstering Calzaghe; just some wordplay on FRKO's accusation that I was just saying that to degrade Calzaghe.

No, neither is like Pavlik, though Lacy and Pavlik are bother pressure fightes with high work rates. Both Lacy and Kessler are technically better boxers than Pavlik, though, which is why I used them as examples in the first place. If Calzaghe can make those two look like amatures, I don't think it's a stretch to say that he'd do as bad or worse to Pavlik. He's basically tailor-made for Zaggs. That was the reason for the comparison.

I'd love to hear what you base this on. Kessler isn't technical, he's mechanical. He might be a better boxer than Pavlik but he's nowhere near as good overall. Looking pretty against C class fighters doesn't count.

And Jeff Lacy isn't a better pressure fighter than Pavlik, what are you nuts? Lord have mercy.
