  • Hopkins-Pavlik was worse than Calzaghe-Lacy.

Here's why. Lacy wasn't quite proven. He was more hype, and he had good power. Pavlik was a proven champion and considered among the elite. He's had all kinds of publicity. He's been in ESPN the magazing and all kinds of other ****. He was being groomed as possibly the face of boxing, and then he gets humiliated. While Calzaghe-Lacy was surprising and certainly a great win for Calzaghe, looking back at it, it's understandable. This Hopkins-Pavlik fight was shocking on a whole other level, and it's devastating for Pavlik.

It really wasn't, Lacy was hyped up so much and Calzaghe was pretty much written off by everybody, Hopkins, while being written off by some people was not considered that big of an underdog by that many people.

And the beating Lacy took was way, way worse.

Lacy got murdered. Pavlik jus took a boxing lesson and a beating. Pavlik's face was bloodied but not deformed. Lacy looked like a truck ran his face over.

Lacy was ruined by that fight, Pavlik was just embarrassed.

Lacy took more of a beating. Hopkins was pretty much written off too though, and Pavlik was much more highly regarded in the boxing world than Lacy. I just think that this win was much more surprising. I was surprised with the Calzaghe-Lacy fight, but not as much was known about them compared to Hopkins and Pavlik. I found Hopkins' victory much more surprising.

i totally agree. they had pavlik as the blue collar face of boxing whether they admit it or not. and clazaghe was not forty and lacy was not r a top contender he was just fun to watch and had potiental. they didnt have special on him on hbo and espn. and the fight wasnt a half as big as this. people hate to admit it and give bernard his props. its disgusting.

It wouldn't have been a absolute shock if Bernard had won...but he won basically EVERY round. I couldn't believe that part. He cudda went 15 rounds.

Hopkins was not written off nearly as much as Calzaghe was, Calzaghe was just supposed to be another victim, most people knew that even if Hopkins loses, he would make Pavlik look bad.

This win didn't surprise me at all honestly, the manner in which he won was somewhat surprising but not as surprising to most boxing fans as what happened to Lacy.

And Lacy was actually a more established titlist than Pavlik at that point, he had 5 or 6 title defenses and unified the division, and Lacy was in the same weight class as Calzaghe, Pavlik was moving up, that's not an excuse, it's just the truth.
