Paul Williams fighting for a title in 154, vacates 147 ?

He has two fights outside 147. Doesn't that strip him of his WBO title ?

Well, if it does things get interesting..

    why ?

Cotto is ranked #1 by WBO, you think he fights another guy in a "tune-up" fight for the vacated belt? I think so, and i think it should happen to further the rematch with Margarito to being bigger as unification bout.

    thoughts anybody?

I'm not even sure if this is for Verno's 154 lb. IBF belt.

I dont know the WBO's rules. But if you are correct, that would make the fight even better IMO. Unification bouts always bring more excitement as we would all love to, espcially in this deep division, recognize a true linear champion.

      Unify the belts!!

Williams is not going to vacate his title & legitimate claim to supremacy at 147 He is fighting at multiple weights & will probably hold 2 world titles in 2 different weight classes at the end of the year. He is doing things no boxer in his era is doing. Paul Williams is the REAL DEAL.

There is no rule that states that. At least to my knowledge. There are so many alphabet organizations.

Depends on when how long he has to fight his mandatory, and if he gets and is granted permission by the WBO to **** around somewhere else not defending their 147 belt...

By the way, where the **** did this Verno Phillips thing come from? I was shocked as all hell, and so was Warp (we were chatting like little bitches during Hopkins-Pavlik)... Did anyone have any knowledge of it? Earlier today I heard something about Williams-Clottey. Strange.

Dan Rafael of BSPN had reported it as a possibility earlier this month on the BSPN website. It is a nice chance for Paul in that he has the chance to Pick up another world title in another weight class.

WBO should sanction a match between cotto and williams! thats should be one hell of a fight. IMO, williams will just be cherry picking if he elects to fight phillips!

That's absurd... fighting any titlist in a weight class above the one you have a title in is not cherry picking.

Anyway, it's not like Williams hasn't been calling everyone out... No one wants him!

Cotto was the first name he called out after he beat Margarito, even before Mayweather.
