Kelly Pavlik-Bernard Hopkins: Pre-Fight Report Card

By Cliff Rold - Arguments continue about whether the fight is necessary, certainly about whether it will be any good once the bell rings, but very few have examined the standard nature of it. The best of new, young champions often are forced to face their future fate early on by facing down the man who walked their road first. All champions get old and it is often their heirs who introduce them to the concept with finality. [details]

Not only that, but a number of fighters have suffered when trying.

I think a Hopkins stoppage is only realistic if Pavlik can get him exhausted by trying to force the issue like Joe did. He actually looked vulnerable by the latter part of his last fight just by his own fatigue. Pavlik can mix his punches, so we'll seem some effort to the body. It's a perfect storm in round 11 if he can work B-Hop to that point I think.

Rooting for Hop to pull out the decision though.

He must win 8-4 for HBO not to give it to the future in Kelly imo. I don't see a 7-5 affair going his way.

Kelly wins either by late stoppage (ref stops it while Hop is on his feet) or a wide UD for Kelly. I cant see really see a way that Hopkins can with this one.

I can see Hopkins winning, but i'm betting on Pavlik. Got to be a decision for Pav, or a late stoppage. No way he knocks out Hopkins (though i'd love to see it). The only reason i worry for Pavlik is because he is a simple fighter and Bernard is smart and his counter punching could cause a bit of trouble for Pav.
