Peter's trainer Vitaly best thinking Heavyweight since Ali

McKinley gives ample credit to Vitali for his effort, and in retrospect, I’d like to give him a bit more credit, and lace into Peter a tiny bit less. “Vitali is probably the smartest, and best thinking heavyweight since Ali,” McKinley said.

      "Smartest & best thinking heavyweight...."

As in intelligence and book smart, or boxing smarts (ring generalship)? I agree that Dr Ironfist is super-intelligent and well spoken in assorted languages. He is my choice for smartest as in intelligence, book type smart.

BUT....as far as smartest concerning ring generalship? I would consider Evander Holyfield, Larry Holmes, George Foreman and a few others as having better ring savy. These guys had more fights against better competition and knew volumes about boxing.
Vitali is for sure up there among the best, I'm just not convinced that he is THE very best ring general since Ali.

PS-Great article! Thanks for posting it.

I want to add Roy Jones to my list also. I keep thinking of him as a lightheavy, but since he won a heavyweight title, he's eligible for inclusion in this discussion.
He's also at the top of my list of "smartest-best ring general" with those other guys I named.

Sam Peter landed like next to nothing, thats how intelligent Vitali fought. I think I saw literally one power punch of Sam Peters land cleanly and it didn't even phase vitali... So Vitali has a great defense and a solid chin.
