When I read the title I thought that it was Hopkins who was objecting to the choice of referee. We all remember how Hopkins didn't want Joe Cortez in as referee for the de la Hoya fight.

The one thing I can say in defense of Morton is that he refereed one Hopkins before, the Joppy fight. Hopkins had arranged a side bet with Joppy before the fight that Joppy would not last the distance. I remember it being a very significant money figure so it was in Joppy's best interests to finish the fight. Mouton had a few opportunities to stop the fight but Joppy made the distance.

Some thing the fight should have been stopped earlier, he looked like a cabbage patch doll after the fight.

Cortez is a West coast referee and would never do the fight as is Jay Nady who I personally cant stand. You'll never see either of them do an East coast fight.

There are plenty of names I can think of that they will throw around.

      -Wayne Hedgepeth
-Arthur Mercante JR, altough I've only seen him do one A.C. fight , he does a lot in NYC, in particular MSG
      -Kenny Bayless
      -Randy Neuman

Look at Taylor's head, slumped in the corner. The fight was over.

You must be smoking Angel dust my friend.

Pavlik was certainly dazed, but jumped right back up and won the second half of the round.

          # 1 Taylor had NO COMPLAINTS about the stoppage, so why do you?

          # 2 Taylor wasn't getting up if it was a 30 count let alone 10 count. He was out and slumped against the ropes like a hobo after a bottle of cheap Whiskey.

I think this is dumb, Earl Morton may be friends with Hopkins but they shouldn't stop Morton from doing his job. Does he get paid still for being screwed or is he getting screwed with no pay? The refs are suppose to not show favoritism even if they're friends with the boxer. I guess people think of Richard Steele and the Chavez fight.

If I see Glen Hemada gets a judging spot on this fight I will personally contact HBO and ask for the hour or so of my time back

i can see why someone would have concern. But Morton is a very good ref, and a professional, i'm sure he would of done his job well. But hey if we can get Smoger, i wont be complaining.

Let Smoger do this, he doesn't allow too much clinching, let's the action flow, he's a good referee for this type of fight.
