HBO or Showtime invests in the fight, they cover about 50% of the fighters' purses plus they provide production and commentary, they also help pay for some other things, I can't really remember what. HBO also has the countdown shows which Top Rank wouldn't do, or if they did something similar, would cost them a lot of money.

I think if Top Rank decided to do something like this, they'd be lucky to break even.
I think your wrong in breaking even. Arum makes good money off chavez jr ppv you're telling me he would break even with a margarito vs mosley card??? I never heard of HBO or showtime paying 50% of a fighters purse, where did you get that from? HBO wouldnt' have a countdown for shane vs margarito, they bearly had one for cotto vs margarito. When you figure arum spends very very very minimal on advertising for a chavez fight and still makes decent money to continue doing it, I just come to think there's no reason why he can't do it with tony and mosley. It would be a profitible fight with no hbo or showtime to share profit with.

With the economy as it is now, with probably no hype up show, and quite possibly a bad undercard, charging probably about $50 for the PPV, with two names that aren't known for their PPV drawing power would make it hard for Arum to break even.

I got that reading an article on Calzaghe-Hopkins a while back, HBO shelled out a lot of money for that one.

They'll have one, they had one for Mosley-Cotto, they would have one for Mosley-Margarito.

How many buys did Chavez Jr.'s last PPV do?

What does't make sense is why HBO won't shell out for SSM-Margo. Especially when they'd shell out millions for a fight that you knew stylistically was gonna suck (calz-b-hop). HBO should fork over the money for this fight cuz in the long run it will pay off. Margo should win and if he does it brings even more intrigue to a possible rematch with Cotto or possible matches with DLH or PBF which would all bring in HUGE money. The fight would also be an entertaining one for as long as it lasts. HBO continues to make boneheaded decisions when it comes to there Boxing programming.

HBO would not shell out on Mosley-Margarito because both fighters are not big sellers in reality, Am not saying they wouldnt sell but they wouldnt sell big money like oscar or Mayweather would do.

Arum cant and wouldnt be able to make enough profit from the fight if he tries to put it on PPV, He would comeback with a loss...Thats why he needs HBO's input to break even.

when margarito beat cotto, the mexicans were the biggest fanbase supporters in the fight, cotto has a giant puerto rican fanbase but margaritos fanbase was the majority, shane is a legendary great name and everybody wants to see this fight, even ****** like soniccootchieflood and flawed ass flawless does too

No offense bro but I don't think Floyd was a big seller alone. He needed a dance partner with a name.

Well from the HBO PPV list he seem to be a big seller without the big names, Most people seem to realise that now. Mayweather without any big names will still do 350,000 upwards so i doubt HBO would agree with you.

Take Oscar and Hatton out of his PPV and he does well in the fight he has been in.

those are false numbers used in order to make mayweather a star, all he was ,was a retired fight ducker, i know nobody who really knows the name floyd mayweather jr, thats sad
