Don King was good for Boxing

He was a terrible person himself and terrible for the fighters because he stole so much from them but his match making was incredible.

Imagine him having a stranglehold over boxing, we'd have one of those Heavyweight tournaments that Tyson, Berbick, Spinks etc. had or a Middleweight Tournament that Tito, Hopkins, Joppy all had.

We'd be seeing the best match-up in boxing, alot of the weight classes would have clear cut champs and alot of poplularity would return to boxing, you wouldn't get fighter pricing themselves out because otherwise you wouldn't get a fight there would be no accusation of Ducking none of this catchweight bull.

Look at the state of boxing now that he has been succeeded in terms of power and fighters...

Boxing's recent peak in popularity was on King's watch - though the current PPV mess is partly to blame on Don too...

But I like Don for the most part; he's willing to book in the Midwest, too - which makes world class events available to me without travelling across the country

I loved watching (listening) to Don king interviews. He is so funny without really trying to be. He makes up words (trickeration) and slaughters the countless big words he uses in every sentence.

Remember when he was on Jim Rome's show and Rome asked him if he paid Bob Lee to have his fighters ranked and King just started talking about something totally off subject without missing a beat. Rome kept pressing him several times to answer and each time, King just steered the conversation further away from the question. Then he blamed Arum for the bribes, saying "he was lying yesterday, but he was telling the truth today. And he may be lying again tomorrow!"

As for the fights he put together, I agree that he really used to stack his cards with some great fights. He supposedly fleeced his fighters, but they still got more money fighting for him than they would have fighting for the minor league promoters.

I'll miss him when he's gone.

What's bad for boxing is just like the abc belts, there are many promoters. They protect there fighters so they can earn more money in the long run. If we have just one belt in each weight class and one promotion company, matches will happen more easily and dream match ups will happen continuously. No more waiting for years.
