James DeGale To Meet With Top Rank To Talk Pro Deal

James DeGale, an English middleweight boxer who represented Great Britain to win Olympic gold at the Summer games, is flying to America to meet with Bob Arum of Top Rank to discuss a possible deal for the 22-year-old fighter to turn pro. During this year's games, he beat former Olympic gold medalist Bakhtiyar Artayev in the quarter-finals, Irish boxer Darren Sutherland in the semis and Cuban fighter Emilio Correa in the finals. Its sad that the olympics are pumping out fighters with no chance of success in the pro game.

Degale could be a very good pro but I doubt anyone can say that an amature will definetly become a world champion. Degale's Olympic succes will open alot of doors for him and if he has the right mentality he can go on and do well for himself, of he is a total nob head like Khan he will end up getting ****ed up.

I think the Irish fighter Darren Sutherland will make a far better pro than DeGale.

DeGale had a very specialised style and manipulated the scoring system to a tee.

He won't sign with any American promoter btw he said as much on Setanta. He wants to stay at home.

Am sorry but this guys style isnt suited to the pro game, He should try and get as much money as he could get NOW. Because i dont see how he could be successful in the pro game.

I sparred him a couple of times about 4 years ago but he has improve alot since then but the pro game wouldnt suit his style at all, I wasnt surprise that he won gold because winning gold without having a good boxing skill is easy these days.

The only gold winner that i think would be a great pro is lomachenko (Name)..

yeah Lomachenko and that other Ukranian Usyk who lost to that really boring Italian.

Also there was a freakishly tall Mongolian at the lighter weights, not sure how you'd go about beating that guy to be fair, he was very sharp.

In a pro fight Sutherland would knockout DeGale.

degale cleverly adapted his style to the amatuer scoring system, allowing him to win. Most good pros were good amatuers with a good amatuer style, they adapt once they turn pro. Degale will adapt his style, he's not going to keep fighting as if he were an amatuer is he?
