Lennox Lewis, The Last Great Heavyweight

I think Lennox Lewis might have been that last great Heavyweight to take the reigns.

It took a while for people to become accustomed to his style.
He's from Jamacian decent, Bristish, and lived in Canada.

If Lewis were to fight Klitschko now, i still think that Lewis would hammer him.
Lewis was one of the few heavyweights to throw in sets.

His most devstating combo was a sticking 1-2.

There was no way that tyson would have been able to see him at the pinnacle of Lewis's career.

I was totally cool with him stepping down with all 3 belts. That way a new heavyweight champion would have to work his way up to legendary status.

The Klitschko's have yet to get to that status.....maybe i'm just not a fan of the Klitschkos

Vitali and Wladimir are both great fighters

Vitali beat up Lewis and scared him into retirement

      Yeah sure he did. LOL.

Lennox kicked his ass. Half of the guy's face was hanging off.

Vitali was clearly winning the fight 4-2 at the time of the controversial stoppage....Vitali hurt Lewis bad several times and made him stagger like a drunk.

Lewis collapsed onto his stool at the end of the 6th round, he was hurt and finished....Vitali would've knocked him out for sure if the fight had continued.

lol kicked lewis ass, lewis wasnt hurt in the 6 round or even knocked down in the fight, I agree that lewis was tired in the 6th and was losing on PTS, but the only thing that got its ass kicked in that fight was Vitali face.

I'm not saying that Klitschkos are good...i'm just saying they're not great.

They do have some heat...but they lack finesse.

Let's agree to disagree. Lewis was fine. Tired, but easily able to continue, and if Vitali had taken a few more of those monstrous uppercuts he would have been out of there good and proper.

Let's also consider that Lewis was only at 50%. He didn't train properly for the fight at all. If he had, Vitali's face would probably have to be stitched back on.

Yes, I agree with the thread starter. Lewis was the last great heavyweight.

They do indeed lack finesse, they look pretty clumsy, in fact.

                  excuses, excuses, excuses

Lewis said before the fight that he was fully prepared and ready

one more big right hand from Vitali in the 7th and Lewis would've been on the canvas and finished.

Lewis was hurting Vitali as well, i don't care what anyone says! There was a couple of uppercuts that Lewis landed on Vitali that were lethal, and Vitali was hurt.

Those cuts didn't come out of thin air either.
