    New Leonard-Hagler Book

"Sorcery at Caesars: Sugar Ray's Marvelous Fight". By Steve Marantz.

I am the author and I thank this board for allowing me to introduce myself.

I covered boxing for the Boston Globe from 1979 to 1988 - including the careers of Leonard and Hagler.

"Sorcery" is about their rivalry, their controversial 1987 bout, and its lingering effect.

Twenty-one years later, fans still debate the decision, and Hagler still is angry.

Though I covered the bout, there was much about Leonard and Hagler that was hidden from view. It took 21 years to piece the story together.

Glad to be a new member of this site - I welcome comments and questions.

Weird thing. I was browsing on Amazon for boxing books before Dawson v Tarver and put this very book on my wish list, a definite buy subject to decent reviews.

Welcome to Boxing Scene. I myself am a rookie who has yet to make an impact so don't put any stock into my welcome.

I am now going to go into your post history to see what you're all about, and whether you think the Dawson fight was boring and whether Tarver's wife is the bomb.

      Cheers.

A couple of questions for you, Steve.

What have you been up to since you left the Boston Globe, aside from writing this book?

And how come you didn't introduce yourself sooner? I mean, you're someone who I think alot of people would be interested in on here.

Since I left the boxing beat I've covered politics and government for the Boston Globe and Boston Herald, and baseball for The Sporting News. Currently I am a researcher for ESPN.

I scored the fight for Leonard 116-112 at the time.
But every time I've watched it since, as referee Richard Steele says, "it gets closer."

I call bull****. I go to at least 6-7 other forums and this guy is a member at ALL OF THEM. He makes the same exact threads on all of them, word for word. After I just googled him, he made this exact thread on like 20 forums. It's not but a marketing ploy. Nobody has that much time on their hands.

Read a review in the ring recently about it, really goes in depth about both fighters even talks about Hagler drug use. Ment to be good.
