I think it would have been more dominant, Jones was faster, his in and out movements would have flustered Tarver, Tarver has never dealt with pressure too well, Jones had his best moments when he was coming forward and using his speed against Tarver, which is what he would have done when he was younger.

So you're a saying a prime Jones would have realistically fought a 39 year old Tarver?

I always think that Tarver would have troubled Jones, simply because he is a southpaw and had the ability to take advantage of Jones defensive arrogance. They met in the amateurs and went 2-2, so IMO they would have always been a close fight. I would also look back at Jones fight against Eric Harding and Lou De Valle, which shows that he never took risks against southpaws. Dawson takes more risks than Jones, is a better pure boxer, is naturally bigger and performed better against southpaws and is a southpaw himself.

Another thing that should be considered is the fact that Jones was not shot in the first or second fight with Tarver. He beat Tarver the first time so obviously he had something left.

Yeah something similar probably. Prime Jones' speed and reflexes would have let him outbox Tarver in all 12 rounds. I think Silencers summed it up pretty well.

Don't ever compare Dawson to a Prime Jones like that again..............ever.

I am a huge Dawson fan and won some points on this bout but Prime Jones is arguably the greatest fighter to exist.

PRIME RJJ could have pulled a late TKO on MILK DUD.

PRIME RJJ is faster, stronger, more power. acurate. better ring generalship etc etc.

                  but props to dawson.

That's why you have to look outside of the box sometimes, and see that Jones had defensive flaws and Tarver had the ability to always trouble him. I am a fan of Jones and i have almost all of his fights, however he was not perfect and not nearly the greatest fighter(which is ridiculous). Dawson was stronger than Roy( who started out at junior middleweight) took more risks and was a harder puncher at 175.
