Vitali Klitschko Returns, Makes Samuel Peter Blink

by T.K. Stewart - Spend enough time around this game they call boxing and you can sometimes figure out who is going to win a fight just by watching two fighters when they are in the same room with each other.

If you were paying attention on Friday afternoon when challenger Vitali Klitschko and WBC heavyweight belt-holder Samuel Peter faced off during the official weigh-in ceremony for their title fight there was a cue that tipped you off as to who the winner was going to be.

Klitschko, an oak tree of a man who stands a towering 6'7" tall, stared downward into Peter's eyes, who stands just a shade over six feet in height. Each man looked intently at the other in an effort to gain some sort of psychological edge. Without blinking, each of them tried to hold the gaze.

This boxing ritual has always reminded me of a game that my younger sister and I used to play when we were kids. We called the game 'make you blink' as we would stare into each other's eyes in a contest to see who could hold the stare the longest before one of us burst into laughter - or blinked. [details]

Yeah, it seemed pretty obvious to me that Peter was worried. He would never have been so worked up if he wasn't.

For all that trash talk, Peter just up and quit on the stool. I knew that if Vitali was able to stick to his gameplan (however monotonous) he would break down Peter and stop him. The question is where does Peter go from here? He was totally, broken down, and the only way back to a title is seemingly through one of the Klitschko brothers. I'm not counting Valuev in this, simply because he's lame, and would be KO'd by either Klitschko before Peter gets back in title contention.

Knock Peter all you want, just like VK did, but he didn't quit on his own. VK punked his ass and made him quit. I predicted this and I'm glad to see it. 2 unrelated fights, but now people have seen a true quitter and should stop ****tin on Cotto.

He didn't quit on his stool against Lennox? Vitali is the Linear "True" Champion. As simple as that.

I'd prefer to listen to Mr. Stewart rather that Mr. "Schizzler". It doesn't take much to see who knows more about describing boxing, "The Art of Self Defence".

And the fight itself showed us who knows more about the actual implementation of "The Art of Self Defence".

And allow me to congratulate Mr T.K. Stewart on his successful return to the ring (of well-written articles). ........................

I knew it wouldn't be long.

There are lots of potentially good heavyweights coming up, and approaching conternde status. And there are 2 good championms, Chagaev and Valuev, both of whom would be. on paper anyway, a decent fight for either Klitschko. Chagaev is unbeaten and Valuev has lost one doubtful fight in 50 fights.

Valuev's size and height, combined with his better than average speed and left jab, make him a problem for any fighter. Either of the Klitschkos would be, sizewise in the same situation relative to Valuerv, as was Peter to Klitschko.

Of course there are OTHER factors, bvut neither of the Klitschkos has ever been trained to fight against taller opponents, are not adept at head movement, and NOT against an opponent 6-8 nches taller.

So this is an intriguing match-up.

How the hell does Peter lose to someone who's overrated and was 4 years inactive? It's why I don't like the heavyweight division, they look so less skilled compared to cruiserweight and below. If Peter was more skilled he would of beaten Vitali easily.
