That's democracy?
The US is protecting their interests, everyone uses everyone mate, I doubt that anyone ever thinks that any state does anything on some moral support ground. It does not work that way. If you watch Russian television then you will know that Ukraine is indeed enemy number one to Russia.

The US is the next 4 years are going to transfer some ships to the black sea fleet and have provided military support to Ukraine over the last few years.

If Russia is not an ally then there can only be one other one. The USA. Its not a mater of liking the fact or not, personaly somones beef with the US or the way they do things is not of my concern, bottom line is that its the reality. The USA is an ally.

The never was a national referendum, and how can their be one if over 60% of the country have no clue what NATO really is and what it really stands for? Besides national security is not something the general population should make decisions on.

Ukraine is a soveirgn state that sold, sells and will keep on selling weapons to other sovereign states, and it has fully complied with international laws on their weapons sales. Yes they sold weapons to Georgia, they also sell a lot more weapons to Russia, and Ukraine is resposible for keeping a good chunk of Russian nuclear arsenal in working order. They sell whom ever they want to, such is the market and there is nothing wrong with selling your product, it keeps the economy moving. Smugling weapons they dont posses? What have you been reading? Every weapon transfer is documented. For your infromation, Russians found Serbian weapons in Georgia, and when they showed it on TV they tried to say they where Ukrainian, funny considering the writing on the weapon was in SERBIAN, but them having hard time reading they didnt realize its not Ukrainian, as they "transalted" what was written on the weapon in a news program, there's Russian media for you.

Czech and Poland are sovereign European states and if they wish to have missle defence systems on their territory for whatever reward they get, they might aswel. Czech and Poland have nothing to love about Russians, or did we forget when the Soviets invaded Czech?

Id rather be an ally to evil US and live by their evil ways, and have their evil air force bases in Sevastopol then be an ally to "slavic brothers" to the north east who have done nothing brotherly in the last 1000 years.

Colour Revolutions funded by NGOs? Sounds like you either go to a typical marxist college (90% of them are anyway) or you read too much Russian or whatever anti US press you can find.

First of all, originaly this thread and my reply to it had nothing to do with how much I like Russians. Russians or Americans, I dont really care, I am Ukrainian and I think/work/wish for the best interest of Ukraine, if that means closer ties with the US and a missle defence system directed at Russia then be it. If in 10 years that situation reverses then be it. There are no morals in global politics mate, there are interests. Ukraine already has democracy, but that doesnt mean much now does it? A lot more to it, "then democracy."

    =============

Lastly this had nothjing to do with politics, it had to with kids in either US or Canada, using their supposed "EASTERN EUROPEAN" roots to push their bull**** racist agenda all over the forum.

    =====----====

And this rant is not directed at you:

    ---------

Its sad how after the cold war how much the political views of the regular folk changed in the West. Bunch if kids running around universities talking about Evil USA and climate change, NGO and the evils of WTO. Get a bloody clue. THats the reality, it has always been and always will be.

You live well because someone else is not. Until you agree to live on 2000 calories a day, limit your TV viewing to 2 hours a week and cut your internet off then dont talk about Evil USA, NGOs WTO and other evils of globalization. Wanna be a hippy? THen live like one, smoke that dank every day, grow it, and play guitar.

Some yahoo with an Iphone and his apple computer has the nerve to talk about the evil doings of capitalism...

We killed, kill and will continue on killing till we either, all die from killing each other, or we all die from mother earth killing us, or some other killing agent.

People always fought, people always starved, and the fact that the global population is living on the level its living at right now, is an achievment within itself, who woulda thought 300 years ago about the living standarts today?

People should STFU, stop watching CNN, BBC or whatever it is that your watching and pick up a history book, a political science book and study the reality of politics for once, because really, 90% of the people who seem to be very politicaly opiniated, those guys you hear "discuss" politics over a coffee have no clue what they are talking about.

Reading a news article, or watching TV does not make you an expert on politics, it does not even make you an amateur.

Want to learn about politics? Experiance a few countries, go live there, read analytical journals (go pick them up at a library) study politicians, study trends, study wars, then you will get an idea of what politics are.

Just wanted to clarify a couple things, i know their was no referendum that's what i was saying, holding one over such a huge issue would be the ********ic thing to do which is what "evil Yanukovich" as he's portrayed in the west proposed, but what Ukrainians want isn't of concern to Yushchenko. It's was just commentary on how the media over here spins the reality in terms of flourishing democracy vs the reality etc..

With Poland and Czech i was saying the same thing, how the government is going ahead with it even though most surveys suggest that over 65% of the people are against it.
And with you saying people aren't entitled to voice themselves cuz they don't understand "what NATO is", you could say that about any issue, "well the average person isn't informed enough so their opinion doesn't matter" it's a matter of perspective i guess, i personally don't think the government should be able to decide what ever they want and that regular citizens should have a say in the running of their country. That's all i was saying

"The parliamentary committee’s preliminary findings indicate Ukraine exported over $2.5 billion in arms to various countries over the past four years, but only $200 million has been accounted for in state treasury and defense ministry accounts. State Treasury documents confirm the discrepancies and provide evidence of embezzlement. The committee is expected to reveal the complete results of its inquiry in late October 2008"

"Other evidence of improprieties includes the delivery of artillery systems and ammunition to the Georgian port of Batumi on September 22 under the guise of humanitarian aid."

      "Possible Repercussions for Ukraine
Evidence uncovered during this investigation could result in several repercussions:

-If Ukraine did supply arms to Georgia after the conflict with Russia began, the country would be subject to United Nations Security Council sanctions for supplying arms to a war zone area.
-The scandal could have a negative effect on Ukraine’s attempts to join the European Union and NATO.
-If Yushchenko has knowledge about the missing funds or was personally involved in the embezzlement, it could lead to his removal from office and an early presidential election"
that's the type of stuff i was referring to in regard to the arms dealing, it just creating more instability.

As to being either U.S. or Russian oriented i think a healthy Russia is better in order to provide a geo-political balance rather than it being in a Yeltsin era decrepit state, which would allow the U.S. complete carte blanche to do as it pleases on any issue without having a deterrent, Russia provides that, and i'm all for it

      -the International ********** Institute
      - the NGO Freedom House
      -George Soros's Open Society Institute
      - National Endowment for Democracy
a couple organizations that fund the "revolutions"

      and Berezovsky
"Boris Berezovsky, the fugitive Russian oligarch, is suing Ukrainian politicians for nearly $23 million he says he provided to fund the country's 2004 "orange revolution," Ukrainian justice authorities said Monday.

The London-based businessman, who has a British passport, has filed a suit against Oleksandr Tretyakov and David Zhvaniya, parliamentarians from the pro-presidential Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense bloc, with the High Court of England and Wales, the Ukrainian Justice Ministry said.

Berezovsky, 61, accused the two politicians, who have been summoned to court September 5 to receive subpoenas, of misusing the money he allocated for what he called the development of democracy."

i don't understand how mentioning their funding it makes me a marxist or some new age ***** ******* hippie, both of which i certianly am not

and i agree with the Soviet sickle t-shirt wearing teen ******s who wear the **** not know a thing about the Soviet Union, i'm sure on Wednesday their wearing a Che Guevara shirt as well, to show their support for the movement! I always have a urge to go Vitali on them.

Racism has always been both an instrument of discrimination and a tool of exploitation. But it manifests itself as a cultural phenomenon, susceptible to cultural solutions, such as multicultural education and the promotion of ethnic iden******.
Tackling the problem of cultural inequality, however, does not by itself redress the problem of economic inequality. Racism is conditioned by economic imperatives, but negotiated through culture: religion, literature, art, science and the media.
... Once, they demonised the blacks to justify slavery. Then they demonised the “coloureds” to justify colonialism. Today, they demonise asylum seekers to justify the ways of globalism. And, in the age of the media, of spin, demonisation sets out the parameters of popular culture within which such exclusion finds its own rationale — usually under the guise of xenophobia, the fear of strangers.
