De La Hoya vs Margarito ''The fight will definitely happen'' Oscar Says

Oscar De La Hoya entertained the possibility of eventually fighting three-time welterweight titlist Antonio Margarito while promoting his up-coming mega-event with Manny Pacquiao on popular Spanish-language radio show “Piolin Por La Manana” on 101.9 FM in Los Angeles this past Monday morning.

It was the first time since the “Tijuana Tornado” stopped Miguel Cotto that De La Hoya did not dismiss or put off the notion of taking on the dangerous Mexican national.

De La Hoya’s stop at Piolin’s radio studio was part of his cross-country media tour to hype his December 6th showdown with Pacquiao, but in L.A. (where Margarito trains), and on a Spanish radio show that mainly caters to Mexican listeners, the conversation inevitably swayed towards Margarito.

De La Hoya said that he will indeed fight the current WBA welterweight champ after his encounter with “the PacMan”.

“The fight will definitely happen,” De La Hoya answered when the radio show's players asked his of his plans with Margarito.

Perhaps De La Hoya is coming around due to his pride, in part a response to the hardcore fans’ chants of ''Margarito, Margarito'' at past Golden Boy Promotions – including the Mosley-Mayorga showdown two week's ago – and perhaps he realizes that the fight could be a big event. If he was paying attention, he noticed the WBA champ being mobbed by fans at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.

I notice why do Mexican promote this fight too much against De La Hoya? Margarito will just be a bull**** fighter if he fights Oscar. Floyd has been bash before, Margarito is a chicken and a coward.

He needs to get revenge against Williams first.

Mexicans are really chickens, instead of promoting him to fight a lively fighter like Williams, they are a real ***** of wanting Oscar.

      Fans everywhere should rejoice.

Since quite literally the moment De La Hoya vs. Pacquaio was announced, it has been on the mind of many fans. What about Antonio Margarito?
Oscar announced that he would fight Miguel Cotto should he get by Margarito in their matchup. However when Margarito knocked out Cotto, Oscar and Golden Boy promotions went into full spin mode.

Using a litany of reasons, Oscar and Richard Schaefer have made clear their intentions not to fight Antonio Margarito.

First Oscar wouldn't fight Margarito because he was scared the Mexican fight fans would turn on him. Next, it was the unfinished business between Margarito and Paul Williams that prohibited De La Hoya from fighting him.

More recently it has been delegated to Shane Mosley to get the first crack at Margarito. That is of course, until Mosley struggled for most of his fight against Ricardo Mayorga.

Meanwhile De La Hoya overlooked the baddest man in the 147 lb division for the former baddest man in the 130 lb division. All this while not weighing in for a fight under 150 lbs in several years.

The criticism, however, has been mounting. The boiling point may have been the numerous interviews and videos surfacing on the web of Margarito calling De La Hoya and questioning his manhood.

De La Hoya now claims he will fight Margarito, after he deals with Pacquaio. In an interview with a spanish language radio show, Oscar said the fight with Margarito "will definitely happen."

Throughout his career De La Hoya has not been one to duck away from challenges, from his fight with Trinidad to his ill advised challenge of Bernard Hopkins.

Maybe De La Hoya's machismo has resurfaced and he wants to go out against the best. Or maybe he has noticed Margarito's newfound superstardom. Either way, fight fans will win no matter who wins if and when these warriors meet.

Fans everywhere should rejoice. Since quite literally the moment De La Hoya vs. Pacquaio was announced, it has been on the mind of many fans...

Margarito would stop him at this stage of Oscar's career.

lol Oscar isn't Miguel. Oscar can take shots and avoid shots far better then Cotto.

As for this fight, De La Hoya should have stuck to his words and steered away from Tony. Vernon Forrest is right there for Oscar, that would be a great fight to be made.
