Goossen-Tutor has sent the word out that Glen Johnson taking on Antonio Tarver is a done deal. The two fighters will meet on December 18th, 2004, live on HBO. The bout will be held in the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Both Tarver and Johnson will drop their titles in order to make the fight happen. Tarver was warned by the WBC that he would get stripped if he went ahead with the Johnson bout instead of facing mandatory challenger Paul Briggs. Johnson was getting similiar threats from the IBF about meeting his mandatory prior to meeting Tarver. The WBC will have a bout between the two top contenders, Paul Briggs and Thomas Ulrich, to crown a new champion. [details]

I think both fighters would have been able to make more money if they fought their manditorys, then fought each other. Tarver is in need of some money so that isn't really the best move on his part. And Johnson I think is just doing this cause this will bring him the most money he has gotten so far.
A title that meant so much to Tarver he is just going to let it go. -

....Yeah I agree with you and I hope we are both wrong. Would love to see Johnson kick Tarver's ass.Comment

That's exactly how I feel. I want to Johnson to win because he is a pretty good guy. Tarver, however, is not. What Tarver is, though, is a damn good all around boxer with a sharp punch as well. Johnson, although better than his record indicates, is much more limited and has had his rear kicked by some washed up guys.Comment
