Round by Round Coverage; Tarver-Dawson, Klitschko-Peter

By Rick Reeno - On Saturday night, the biggest doubleheader of the year will be televised on Showtime. At the O2 Arena in Berlin, Germany, WBC heavyweight champion Sam Peter (30-1, 23 KOs) will defend his title Vitali Klitschko (35-2, 34 KOs).

After nearly two-years of hype, legal tussles, injuries and postponements, Klitschko returns after a near four-year hiatus.

“I didn’t lose my title in a fight. I gave it up three years ago,” Klitschko said. “But now I want my title back. This is going to be a real world heavyweight title fight between two world champions.”

Peter has shown stamina issues and Klitschko has been plagued by injuries. How this fight turns out is anyone's guess. Will Klitschko, 37, be able to turn back the clock? Or will Peter get revenge for his lone loss to Vitali's younger brother.

Following Klitschko-Peter, the Showtime card will head to the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, where Antonio Tarver (27-4, 19 KOs) defends the IBF light heavyweight title against undefeated Chad Dawson, (26-0, 17 KOs).

Prior to Dawson's fight with Glen Johnson, it was easy to pick him over Tarver. Prior to Tarver's fight with Clinton Woods, it was easy to pick him to lose. It's a fight where the winner is probably the guy who wants it more. Dawson is young enough to recoup from a loss, Tarver can't afford to drop another one. [details]

    Comments on the Peter-Klitschko fight.

I for one would have been interested in a description, seen through your eyes, of the relative conditioning, or efficiency, which punches were most used, as well as anything out of the expected or ordinary which might have happened. Perhaps comments from, say, the analysts, or the corners, or the fighters statements after the fight.

    Just my opinion.
