Somehow, sometimes the anticipation is great as (and occasionally) greater than the fight itself. While not all fights develop being as great as they're hyped up to be, at the very least fans usually get their imaginations flowing and the commotion starting when a big fight is on the horizon. When we're watching a live Pay-per-view fight, many of us get really excited, others nervous, others anxious...nothing quite gets there as much as the final stare-down before the bell, but nothing says "The fight is here!" like a good ring entrance to get the excitement brewing. Having said that, what have been some memorable (if not significant) entrances for you. And why?
Off the top of my head, to name a few:
Cotto's entrance against Mosley to Hector Lavoe's "Mi Gente"- it doesn't get any more Puertorrican than that. For anyone that is Puertorrican, the song has almost an anthem-like appeal to it, and those who heard it must've felt great at the moment.
Naseem Hamed's entrance against Kevin Kelley to "Men in Black"- if I remember correctly, the ring entrance for what seemed like 8 to 9 minutes. Kelley was absolutely enfuriated, but Naseem was told that he could take upwards to 10 minutes to get to the ring, and he used almost all of it. He danced for several minutes behind a silhouette curtain, marched slowly towards the ring jirating his hips, and topped it off with his signature flip over the rope. I'm not saying I liked the guy, but you HAVE to admit it was entertaining, although arrogant.
Michael Katsidis' entrance with a spartan casque against Joel Casamayor- it was the first time I'd seen him fight, so I was naturally amused by his antics. The staredown before the staredown made it all the more memorable.
Floyd Mayweather's ring entrance against Carlos Baldomir- I wish I could've seen it just to hear the commentary. If I remember correctly from the snippets I've gathered, Floyd came in medieval attire as roman soldiers carried him towards the ring. Damn, man!
