Beating Hopkins does absolutely NOTHING for Pavlik's legacy.

Pavlik already beat Taylor 2x, who in return beat Hopkins 2x. On top of that, he has lost 3 of his last 5 fights. Its a lose lose situation for Pavlik. If he wins, they will say he beat an old/shot version of Bhop. If he loses, then he lost to an old/shot version of Bhop. Either way he gets no real recognition.

He will get a lot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ probably a career high for him and if he beats him impressively it will likely set up a fight with Calzaghe, another career high payday.

Hence why Pavlik and his team weren't happy about the fight. But it was the only real money fight available so they reluctantly took it.

Jones/Bhop rematch, and a Pavlik/Calzaghe showdown would have made MUCH more sense!

Beating an old black fighter always does something for your legacy if you're white.

              ...Look at Rocky Marciano.

IMO beating Hopkins would be a career best win for Pavlik. Hopkins was widely regarded as the #1 LHW prior to losing to Calzaghe, who himself was the #1 SMW. Beating Taylor was a good pair of wins, but beating Hopkins while moving up in weight would indisputably prove Pavlik is the real deal. If he wants to be regarded as the best 160 - 175 fighter though he needs to hope that Calzaghe postpones his retirement and fights him, or takes on Kessler and Abraham. In an ideal world he would face all three of these opponents.

I partly agree with this. As a Pavlik fan, I see little to gain and possibly a lot to lose in fighting Hopkins. I wanted him to fight Green, Wright, Williams, Sturm, or Abraham.

Still, it will be something of an achievement if he KOs the durable Hopkins. And if so, I'm going to LOVE seeing the old ex-convict hit the canvas.
