What is the definition of a fighter being "shot"?

Seems like everybody has a different definition for the term "shot".

My official definition of a fighter being shot is: A fighter that shouldn't be fighting anymore because he isn't there anymore and his reflexes are gone. This is usually due to having been in too many wars, having taken too much punishment, or a combination of the two. This is not to be confused with a fighter that is past his prime.

    Misuse:

Pacquiao v Morales II. Morales surely was past his prime, however he wasn't shot, and that fight in itself was still a competitive fight until the late, late rounds in which you could tell Morales was done.

    Correct use:

Pacquiao v Morales III. You could tell Morales was a shell of his former self. The look on his face when he was shaking his head on the canvas explains itself.

in this place being shot is that you got KOED or you lost your first fight. thats one thing i like about MMA a fighter does not get turned down because he lost his 0.

To me a shot fighter is one who can no longer do what he did in his prime, its that easy, just because he lost doesnt mean he is shot, maybe his opp was just ther better man.

the one going around is that roy is a shot fighter, he still has skill and speed, it just happend to be that johnson and tarver were the better men the day of there fights

i belive the 12 round of the first fight is the exact round when morales got old, morales looked good in the first part of the second fight but he wasnt shot, if he was he would of gotten ****ed up by diaz

Co-sign. Good post. Some guys beyond their best don't embarrass themselves, they just ain't capable of bringin it like they used to. People are sayin SSM is shot now but I disagree. He's lost sumthin and may not last much longer but he didn't look shot against Mayo, he just didn't look good.

Prime Examples: Jose Luis Castillo, Meldrick Taylor after the Chavez fight, Gatti

Past Prime would be: Tszyu at time of Hatton, Ali in the last few fights, Holyfield, Hopkins, DeLa

Taylor wasn't shot after the Chavez fight, he wasn't the same fighter but not shot and Ali was shot by the time he fought Holmes and Berbick.
