Boxing’s ‘gatekeepers’ play a vital role in the sport. They provide a ‘litmus test’ for up-and-coming fighters or can be a ‘tune-up’ for veteran superstars. Gatekeepers also frequently take fights on short notice to salvage big fight cards and make a good living while doing so. They are the unsung heroes of the sport.
