I agree totally that any version of Vitali that we have ever seen destroys Sam Peter and that if he were to be heavyweight champion he'd be far better than Sam. He just can't be. Wlad will always be in the way. That makes that point sort of irrelevant. Sam Peter needs to win for heavyweight boxing. The Klitsckos as co-champs will just highlight everything that is wrong with boxing politics and sanctioing bodies at the highest, most visible level.

Im actually not even that confident that Haye will beat Barret let alone both Klits. But a man can dream.

I think Vitali will probably have another fight, maybe 2, and then retire again, permanently. He won't have anything left to prove, and he desperately wants his brother to unify. I'd like to see Vitali against Haye, actually. It'd be a good fight (if a little short), and in the unlikely event that Vitali lost, there would be a rather dramatic matchup between Haye and Wlad immediately, giving Wlad the fight he needs to help prove himself, and unify. Of course Haye wouldn't win, so I figure Vitali would have another fight shortly after, then immediately retire, and we'd see a few pretty good heavyweight fights during the eliminator for the title shot. THEN Wlad would take on the newly crowned champ, and again, further prove himself, and unify.

I don't see anything wrong with any scenario that happens, really. The only thing about Vitali winning that could be in any way be bad for boxing, is if the brothers decide to fight each other. That's something I wouldnt' want to watch. If they actually fought, I wouldn't want to see it, but most likely it'd end up being just an active sparring session.

Hopefully Haye will give enough to provide the interest for this division over the next couple of years.

Hey, I got to thinking about that the other day. I think if Haye keeps moving and doesn't trade with Barrett, just boxes and counters, without being too aggressive or trading inside, I think he can pull off a pretty lopsided win over Monty. He's fast, talented, sees punches coming well...he's just not that ringsmart, carries a low guard, and doesn't fight tall like he should. None of this would hurt him unless he took his fight into the kitchen. Monty isn't a huge guy, so fighting low wouldn't hurt, and the low guard won't make much difference if he keeps from standing toe-to-toe with Barrett.

Unfortunately, Haye will probably start throwing bombs at Monty from inside, and get caught, maybe put on his shorts a few times before he learns his lesson. Luckily, Barrett isn't the heaviest-handed guy in the division, so I think he'll survive it. I'm actually looking forward to this fight quite a bit. Should be a good'un.

Sam Peter Rabbit Punch isn't the heavyweight savior. I don't like his crude clubbing style, and I'm hoping Vitali gets a couple of more good years in his career. He's worked hard to make it back. Peter probably won't even show up in decent fighting shape.

It doesn't matter if you think Sam is overrated and want to see him exposed, and it doesn't matter if you want Vitali to go away for good. None of that is relevant. This is an important fight for the sport of boxing and Sam Peter needs to win it. There is no emotion that needs to be involved here past this one: Do you care about boxing?

Really, do you care about boxing? Are you knowledgeable?

Do you remember the old saying that as the heavyweights go, boxing goes? While this is less true now than ever, it is still important. An interesting heavyweight division is the best thing boxing can have and we don't have it. The first step is having a champion, but we have no champion. When someone finds out you are a boxing fan and asks you who the heavyweight champion of the world is and you have to spend ten minutes explaining the ring rankings and the four belt system, something is wrong. If Vitali wins, him and Wlad will never fight each other. Never. We will have two champs until one leaves boxing. That is a doomsday scenario for the heavyweight division, a blow to boxing.

If Sam Peter wins, then suddenly a Wlad rematch becomes very feasible. Sam's camp can show the fight as proof of Sam's improvement and it provides an angle to sell the fight. Vitali has avenged Wlad twice; now the tables would be turned. Then when someone asks you who the heavyweight champion of the world is, you simply reply the winner of the rematch without hesitation like you would say Kelly Pavlik when asked about the middleweights. That is a big step for boxing.

Our options as boxing fans here are to cheer for progress or stagnation, hope or guaranteed more of the same. Do you want whats best for the sport or is your agenda more important?
Great post, Vitali as champ would put the heavyweights in gridlock until one of them retires. The best thing for boxing is a Peter win, unfortunately he's up against it.

Sam only lands illegal neck clubs, he isnt exciting to watch and he and his camp act like little kids with all the childish **** talking. Vitali had a great career in front of him and was cut down by injuries. He gets to take that frustration out on Sam Peter. Vitali by BRUTAL ko. And I'll be cheering him on.
