147 is the lowest weight he can make. Let's see him go up in weight now lol

I'm pretty sure Cotto can comfortably go up and compete at the weight..His only disadvantage would be his height at 5'7/5'8..

But I think a tune-up at 154 would perfectly prepare him for Margarito who resembles the size of a natural 154lber..

What's ur guys' thoughts on this?..and who would be the perfect opponent for his next match on Feb 14th..if not at 154lb at 147lb??
cotto is too small for 154 some of those guys blow up to 170 lbs on fight night. also cotto would be at a huge reach disadvantage... cotto would have to pick his opponents even more carefully at 154 than he does at 147.

lucky for cotto, the 154 lbs division is weak right now so cotto would probably be a slightly above average 154 lber.

also the perfect opponent for cotto would probably be baldomir since he is a lighter punching version of margarito.

I don't think he would be as effective compared to Welterweight.

I'm not insinuating Cotto to stay at 154..that's a horrid division right now..147 is where it's at..

But what I was getting at is that would be a good way to set him up for his upcoming rematch with Margarito in June which of course will be at 147...

but there is really no decent opposition left in 147 for Cotto to take up a tune-up with...

          unless it's Lujan?..

Depending on who he fights I don't think a tuneup at 154 would be too bad for him. I think he'd take some of his power with him, obviously he wouldn't be as powerful as he is at 147 but he'd still be a little above average(Margarito isn't someone to judge power on, the man's not human).

That being said, I strongly doubt it happens, and I don't think Cotto could ever really go up to 154, he's just too small. He'd have no choice but to try and get inside on everyone and go to work, and he would end up taking too much punishment by bigger guys.

Cotto would do fine at 154. He looked weak to me at the weigh in for the Margarito fight.

                Yea..I think he's alright making 147..

but if he would move to 154...as someone stated before me...he'd have problems with the reach and trying to be more of an inside fighter..

But if he can bring his power and some speed..he has some of the most solid inside-short punches I've ever seen..which would be dangerous at 154!..

I also dont think that his power would carry up to the super welter level.

If he didnt hurt Margs I dont think that he could curt a true super welter much less Mora who usually fights at 160.

Cotto's walk around weight is actually 250lbs. He weight drains for every fight which is why he has such a soft, girly, sissy chin.
