    Rounds 11 and 12 of Jones-Tarver I

I feel Roy doesn't get enough credit for them.

I just re-watched the fight and it occured to me that I had never fully appreciated how spent Roy looked at the end of the 10th. He was clearly fatigued and weight-drained and had been beaten up pretty badly by Antonio yet managed to pull it together, dig down and pull out a superhuman effort to take the last two rounds. Roy fought through true adversity and proved his greatness that night.

Yea, he did get beat up in that fight and came through it. Shame about how he fought in the 3rd fight though

Yeah Roy was pretty much a broken man by then. The effort he put in in that first fight against Tarver though was incredible. He was running on empty for pretty much the entirity of the second half of the fight.

Despite the damage he took, or maybe becuz of it, that's my favorite RJ fight. Tarver had him dead tired from the 6th rd on and couldn't do **** but launch flurries on the ropes. People who think Tarver won that 1st fight are nuts.

And can't score fights. They tend to either Hate Roy or score based on "activity" and "aggression" two of my biggest pet peeves for bad scoring of professional boxing.

that is very true. those who rely on SUBJECTIVE criteria like those to score fights are bond t0 do it poorly.

When I first watched it, without scoring I thought Tarver won. He wasn't hurt, as far as I remember, and rocked Jones and beat him up. However, when I actually scored it I had it 115-113 Jones. I realised that all over Tarvers work had been done in a few rounds, allowing Jones to take it on points.

I can't see how the fight was scored for Tarver, but I can see how people would think Tarver won without scoring it.

I guess. I just think that people should keep basic scoring criteria in mind before they mouth off constantly. I can see the impression Tarver gave, and Roy gave, and therefore why you'd have Tarver winning. But to mouth off without have a clue as to how to score and scoring criteria is annoying.

But there are armchair Quarterbacks in ever sport. So I guess that makes sense.
